Aurora Sportman's Club in Waterman, IL is hosting our monthly Practical Precision Rifle (PPR) match this Saturday, June 14th. You can find the two stages (200 and 600 yards) posted here - Action Shooting Sports Matches.
The ASC range in Waterman, IL is roughly an hour west of Chicago - Directions to ASC.
Here's an overview of the PPR Matches - Practical Precision Rifle Details
The purpose of Practical Precision Rifle is both competition and skills development. This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and challenge your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most shooters can't practice on a range. Competitors will face new scenarios each month with targets out to 600 yards.
Precision Practical Rifle matches will be held on the 200 and 600 yard ranges. Most stages will be 4-8 steel targets that must be engaged from multiple firing positions and will be done under a time limit and shot restriction. Targets will be known distance.
Attendees typically use either semi-auto or bolt-action rifles, typically in .308, but any caliber from .223 and up is permitted. While .223 caliber is allowed, heavy match bullets of 68gr or higher are required. While not required, magnified optics are recommended as targets will be placed out to 600 yards and target identification may be required.
Scoring will be optional as some shooters are looking for skill development and not competition. Just let us know if you choose to not be scored.
There will be two divisions for scoring - semi-auto and bolt-gun. Scoring will not be the IDPA-style time-based system used for the PR matches. Instead, a points-based system will be used with both hits and time being a factor. First round hits will typically be 25 points and a second round hit will be 10 points. Each stage will have a par-time. Your stage time will be subtracted from the Par time to get a time bonus that is added to your score.
Matches are held the second Saturday of the month. Safety briefing is at 8:45am and match will start at 9am.
