I want to buy a 5.11 watch with SureShot calculator, there are two option i can choose, HRT watch and Field Ops watch.
Can anyone give me some advices?(give reason)
For HRT watch, few people caomplained that the analog watch stopped working after several months.
Anyone had the same expercise?

Re: Asking for advice ( 5.11 watch)

I bought the HRT. I liked the analog watch...until it stopped working. Then I looked at sending it back. 511 will not do anything to the watch without proof of purchase from an authorized 511 dealer. I bought mine new off ebay, so that was out. I took it down to a Rolex store, the jeweler replaced my battery, so the digital part of the watch worked, but the analog still did not. I think I read somewhere that they have two batteries in them. I have never bothered to to take it back to find out if this was true. I just have a big ugly watch that doesnt do anything sitting in my dresser at home. Because of the lack of reliability (its made in china of course)and the lack of customer support. I would not buy either watch. The ballistic software is cool, but lets face it..it's really just a gimmick. It doesn't do anything that a good ballistic chart that you made back at home based on your DOPE. If you want to have a cool gadget, buy and Itouch and the app "Ballistic FTE" it will do everything you 511 watch will and a whole lot more.

Yup two batteries. Like my HRT watch for the look and the fact that I always have something but Driftwood is correct on many points. I also have the ipod touch and it is a better gadget.

Mine ran great when it was new. Once I locally replaced the batteries it would eat them like candy.

You could by a better watch with some cool features like weather built into them that would really support an app on the ipod touch.

Re: Asking for advice ( 5.11 watch)

There are a few posts about this watch, some hate it some like it. I have the Field Ops, my first one, when I tried to set the declination to KY from AK it stuck on 270, the rest of the watch worked perfect. A call to 5.11 and I had no trouble with them, explained I had the watch for awhile, was told it could not be repaired, they sent me a new watch and emailed me a paid on their coin shipping label back to them, I got to keep the broken watch while they sent a new one. Very good service to me.

It is a big profile watch and it catches on things.
Balastic calc so far has been very accurate for my single 308 load.
With time, inputting data and calc gets quick.
Calc mils but does not give how many clicks in mils just moa, not a huge factor anyway.
The compass function goes into rest mode rather quickly so its hard to triangulate and navigating with a map but shooting a bearing is as easy as a hand compass.

Re: Asking for advice ( 5.11 watch)

Maybe I will give them another call. The worst they can say is "no", maybe I will have a fully working 511 HRT watch once again. I liked the look of the watch, but then I have a soft spot for big ugly watches.

Re: Asking for advice ( 5.11 watch)

Thank you everybody for sharing your experience and suggestion.
Actually i really like the design and look of HRT watch, the ballistic calculator is just a secondary function, i may not use it. The company replied that the analog hands problem is a known batteries issue, 5.11 suggested people who have the analog problem take it to jeweler. Field Ops watch seems to be the only choice.
