I was asked by a friend to help set up his new rifle. Without going into too many details, the rifle has a 40moa cant picatinny rail and the mount is 0moa. His scope is an Athlon Cronos. I mounted it all up and headed to the range today to get it dialed in for him. The problem I ran into is the scope didn't have enough adjustment to zero at 100 yards. Actually, I had to hold at the 7mils line above the center crosshair to hit where aiming. All my scopes are TT and S&B and I have never had this issue before. Is this just because it's a cheaper scope or what? Also, I made sure the stop hadn't been set above the true "bottom" of the turret adjustment. What should I recommend he do? Get a better scope? The rail is not replaceable either. Thanks in advance, Todd

Something is fubar. Probably not the scope. Maybe the the rail and mount are both 40 moa? I would still think that would get you closer than 7 mils to a 100y zero. Does the poi move when you dial elevation on it?

Should be 32 mils of travel meaning 16 up and 16 down (three complete revolutions above the bottom, confirm that you have them). If you are certain that the zero stop is loosened and still 7 mils away that means you are 23 mils away from scope the centerline. Even without the 40moa cant you would still be 12 mils low of the center which still sounds like a lot.

I would take it completely apart and redo it. If you do and its still wrong then get yourself some of the burris rings with the inserts and cancel out that 40 moa inclination.

Edit: You said its an era tac. Its not one of their adjustable inclinations is it? Just trying to rule out the obvious.

Something is making the scope point way too low. Would be my guess. If you can interchange scopes or rifles it will eliminate some variables. Some pictures could be helpful.

I loosened the screw on the top of the turret and dialed the turret up to 5 mils and re-tightened it. There is no more adjustment downward back towards zero. That should be the bottom or end of adjustment correct? I will head out and snap a pic shortly. Thanks for the help!

Screw on top of the turret? The zero stop is held in place by three little screws in the black disk.

I suspected the zero stop, sorry I was late to the thread! I've got a Remington 700 in 300 RUM. I ran a 40 MOA rail on it and still have almost 2 mils down adjustment to spare with a 100 yard zero. This reminds me, I didn't even check to see where the zero stop is set on mine. I'm still playing with load development, so I haven't bothered setting it yet.
