Good afternoon!
I am the commander of my local Young Marines unit, were a non profit youth group similar to the boy scouts. I'm going to start training them up for rifle competitions. I have access to a bunch of target style Co2 pellet guns for the younger ones, but I thought I'd get some of my older kids experience on a good rimfire. I have this cz457 laying around, but it needs irons.
I am looking for advice on attaching a front sight. If anyone has experience doing this, or has some suggestions on a preferred method, I'd appreciate any input.
So far I have considered cutting a dovetail directly into the barrel; making a slip-on ring with a dovetail sight base; drilling and tapping the barrel for screws; boring out an m1 carbine front sight to match barrel OD; making a 1/2-28 threaded collar with a dovetail on top to screw onto muzzle; silver soldering on a f.s.b
I know this isn't re inventing the wheel, but I thought I would ask here to avoid wasting a bunch of time on making something that wont work well in practice, or might ruin my barrel. For example, I thought making a front sight base that could thread onto the muzzle would be a great idea so I wouldn't have to risk cutting into the barrel & so I could take it off when Its nrl22 time. However, this doesn't seem to be a common method of attachment. There isn't much that comes up when you search for "thread-on front sight" etc etc, and maybe the reason for that is that its a stupid idea and doesn't work irl. Anyways. If you have thoughts or advice I'd appreciate it, just looking for a good direction to head in.
