For mounting a Harris on a Picatinny Rail, the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Harris BRM-S + LT706 QD Swivel Mount "Combo"</span></span>+ Gen 2 Pod Loc is by far the best. Larue stocks their LT706 "Combo" with a Harris BRM-S (6-9" Notched Swivel) and the Harris LM-S (9-12" Notched Swivel). You can also special order different height bipods.

Two cool things about the Larue "Combos" is that: (a) the "saddle"/"cradle" that the stock normally rides on is eliminated (lowering the center of gravity), and (b) the thumbscrew clamp that secures the bipod to the stud in the forearm is replaced with a QD picatinny mount.

One sucky thing about the LT706 is that Larue supplies the LT706s' with a ridiculously large Pivot Tension Knob. The Knob is so large that there is NO ROOM to be able to grasp the Knob and turn it, even barehanded (without gloves on). I replaced the LT706's Knob with a KMW Pod Loc. Below are some photos of a Harris BRM-S + LT706 QD Swivel Mount "Combo" before and after I replaced the big, clunky Larue Knob.

+1 Pod lock does indeed rock. I like that mount also it looks like it puts the Bipod much closer to the rifle than what I have.

Yep, it does. By eliminating the "saddle"/"cradle" that the stock normally rides on and the bipod stud used on adapters, "parts stacking" is reduced, lowering the profile as well as the the center of gravity. At the same time, the thumbscrew clamp that secures the bipod to the stud in the forearm is replaced with a QD picatinny mount, which is a much better arrangement.

I had that conversation with James myself, as well as speaking with Mark (Larue). I only needed one LT-706 and I didn't see the sense of getting all twisted over small shit so I bit the bullet and ordered an LT-706 Combo. Besides, I don't blame Larue for wanting to sell the LT-706 Combos complete - it IS their perogative.

thanks for the tip. I was able to order a new bipod, YHM adapter and pod-loc for $139 shipped from Midway....about $40 cheaper than LaRue.

If you equate <span style="font-style: italic">cheaper</span> to <span style="font-style: italic">better</span> good for you, but you guys are fooling yourselves if you think the adapters are as good as an LT-706 when it comes to mounting a Harris.

The YHM and LT-130 adapters are just that - adapters. You're still using a stud mounted to an adapter which is mounted to the rail, thus stacking parts. While the method of mounting the bipod isn't critical, stacking parts is still less desirable than a direct fit assembly.

Re: attaching harris bipod to rail on AR15??

Keith,
I get what you are saying. I had a harris bipod sitting in the safe. The YHM worked fine for me as it's quite narrow. I'm sure the LT-706 is superior to what I'm using now, but, I didn't need another bipod. And I don't use the YHM adapter anymore either, as I swapped out the handguard for the Badger, and put the harris directly on the stud. If I find a use for that DD handguard. I'll probally buy a LT-706, because I'll need another bipod at that point. I'm not promoteing any product, was just answering the question the thread started asked.

Understood. If Larue would have sold me just the LT-706 mount I would have gone that way, as I had a "spare" BRM-S laying around, but Larue wouldn't sell me just the mount. I knew that I'd use the BRMS anyway so buying the LT-706 Combo was no big deal. And its' not like anyone can't sell a BRM-S for $100.00 shipped in 10 minutes on this site anyway.

As long as it works for you thats' really all that matters, although I'm sure you'd prefer like the LT-706 - its' just a better solution. And although I quoted you I wasn't singling you out - I also quoted <span style="font-style: italic">Scooter-PIE</span> and <span style="font-style: italic">CleanMoostang</span>, who where singing the praises YHM adapter largely based on price without regard to design.

Scooter! I want pics. How's it look? I know you will be surprised with the YHM as it's the slimmest I've run across. Don't stress over anything, just make sure your gear works for you.
