As some may have been following earlier when this broke, House Bill 4021 is a Democrat led, Gov. Ralph Northam sponsored "all out" campaign to completely outlaw the ownership of all semiautomatic rifles, "large capacity magazines", suppressors and trigger activators. There are no grandfather clauses and exemptions.

Here is the full text of the bill and it's tracking info:

    Coverage on NRA-ILA:

On July 9th, the House had convened in a "special legislative session". To my knowledge, an earlier version of this bill has been attempted in the recent past and have been defeated, narrowly. This one is currently being "put on hold" and will likely be reactivated immediately as soon as the House officially opens for business in the fall.

This is a very dangerous bill that will seriously hamper the right to keep and bear arms for all law abiding citizens of the state of Virginia. The blanket type wording does not only cover "assault weapons" but include other things to penalize gun owners as well and make their lives as difficult as possible.

Full coverage of the combined efforts to battle HB-4021 is being provided at the Virginia Citizen Defense League (VCDL). Those who are looking for an alternative organization other than the NRA to support the 2A in Virginia can support the VCDL in a variety of ways, which are all outlined on their page here:

They have also included a prepared, editable email template that we can send to the necessary folks in the VA. House to urge them to keep the rights of the citizens of the state first and foremost in their minds while voting.

    EMAIL TEMPLATE:

It is prudent we send our word in as much as possible. Email, snail mail or phone calls. I have already sent out a bunch through their template earlier.

HB-4021 must not be allowed to succeed.

Even if they do not count the emails coming from out of state, it will show solidarity of the entire nation's gun owners with their Virginia brothers.

The other reason why we write is because if and when we do have to defend our rights by force in the future, we do not have to set forth with heavy hearts wishing we could have done something when peaceful means had been available.

Understood and we do need to show solidarity amongst brothers/sisters . Mac

Just a guess here, but I suspect even if you are a resident of VA, your email won't count.
yeah i sent an email to kaine a while back, clearly in opposition to his proposed anti-2a actions, and he thanked me for supporting his position. they don't gaf, but it certainly can't hurt to contact them.

actually i similarly emailed jennifer wexton recently and got a personalized letter back from her. she recognized our positions were opposites (so at least she actually read my email) but alas basically said she is going to do what she is going to do, mostly background checks.

Thanks for this. I have been watching these developments. VA has unfortunately turned very 'liberal' (strange word to use to describe these big government lovers, as they are anything but focused on protecting liberty). I voted against Northam and the long list krazy leftist governors before him. The good news is that the governor in VA only serves 4 years and isn't eligible to run again. We will get another choice in '22 and, in the mean time, I think my liberty as a member of the Commonwealth will be narrowly protected by the General Assembly.

Any thoughts on the fate of this bill since the VA House and VA Senate now have a Democratic majority?

They WILL put it back on the table again, along with more worse things. It is their move in this chess game. And how we move in response will determine the fate of gun rights not just here in the US but throughout the world. Everybody will be watching this. The push will come to shove sooner or later. Whether we turn into another UK or New Zealand or give the tyrants a Romanian Christmas, 1989 style, will determine whether liberty and individual rights and responsibility continue to flourish, or the taking of yet another step in the establishment of a new world disorder, riding on the back of the electronic surveillance state.
