Silly question to ask nation wide. You want to ask around where you live, because you want someone that can show up quickly when needed. I asked a contract lawyer friend for a recommendation and an introduction. After a pleasant conversation over lunch, my treat, this new legal acquaintance with a great local reputation in criminal & self defense case law gave me his card, told me to call if ever needed. No retainer, though I'm sure the expensive clock will start should I ever need to call. It's comforting to have such a arrangement, should the worse ever occur.
