After a good long while of wanting to own an AI, I've finally been able to get my hands on one. I was lucky enough to find one for sale which had only had around 150 rounds through it. The guy I bought it from kindly arranged for the original .308 barrel to be replaced by the UK AI dealers to a .260 (no spare slot on my ticket for another .30 - UK licensing laws etc....) and I was able to pick it up this Tuesday. I'm not totally certain if the barrel is a Lothar Walther or Border - specs are 26" fluted with AI muzzle brake, Atlas Bipod, Thirdeye Tactical 20MOA one piece Unimount and an NXS 8-32. When I bought the rifle, the trigger had been adjusted to single stage, however I converted it back to the original 2 stage which I prefer.
Managed to get some rounds loaded and got some first groups done today. First shot (boresighted only) was pretty close - 3" low and 1" left - 2 more shots to hit the 1" dot and then onto group testing. Went straight to VV N160 which is an excellent alternative to H4350 - 41.5gr to 43gr, New Lap Brass, CCI200's and 139gr Scenars loaded to .020" off the lands (COAL 2.83"). Out of all 5 groups the largest one was 1/2". Needless to say I'm pretty chuffed considering I had a nasty cross wind, the thing is a hammer. Ergonomics, trigger, everything about it is superb. Thanks for those posting reviews on this rifle (LoneWolfUSMC's recent Mail Call Monday review pretty much sealed the deal...). Should get to try everything out up to 1100 yards shortly so looking forward to that immensely!
