AXMC 6.5saum questions

I'm thinking about adding a barrel to my collection. I like the idea of a 6.5saum. But I have a few questions. Currently I have the bolt body for 300wm & 308 with conversion to short action.

First, what magazines will I need to feed this cartridge reliably ?

Second, does anyone know where a barrel is readily available ? Or should I just have my smith spin one up ?

Third, what reamer is the one that is being used so that I don't have to turn necks and what freebore .081" ?

Fourth...the dumb one...What's the difference between 6.5saum & 6.5 Gap4s ?

6.5 Gap4s is a 6.5saum. George Gardener made a tiny tweek to the one to create the other. 4s=SSSS for Super Secret Squirrl Shit, but if I understand both are the same cartridge as much as a 7.62 Nato is a .308 Win.

I would think the 308 will be a little short - depends on freebore and you will likely have to bend the lips out. When I had my AXMC i was thinking the same, but run the 300 bolt, and mag. Issue is getting a large tenon barrel (well it was a couple years ago).

Bugholes usually has some in stock, that's where I've ordered my others for my 6creed & 6SLR

It'll have to be the 300wm bolt body, was hoping they made a mag for these chubbier rounds, can't see that many fitting in a 308 mag. And I know I can fit them in the 300wm mag, just worried about reliable feeding.

Factory Hornady brass works well with the Turn Neck .2962 reamer in my 6.5 RSAUM, and without having to turn the necks. Norma brass with turned necks has produced better SD's though.

The Accurate WSM mag will not lock into an AX, I tried it on mine. I tried a 3 round version, maybe the 7 rounder would work?

My 6.5 RSAUM is in an A5 with Badger metal and both the 3 and 7 round Accurate Mags works well. If the 3 rounder will not work in an AX, its doubtful the 7 rounder will either since the only difference I can see is the length.

Yes, the people I've asked use the 300wm magazine. I recently asked someone in the last couple pages of the AI pic thread, and he said the PRC fed well. (I consider the SAUM and PRC close enough). But I've asked others as well and they have all said it works.

What's the point of owning the long action AI if your going to shoot SAUM calibers? I shoot a 264 Win Mag in mine.

It's to run higher b.c. bullets without seating them deep into the powder column. No different than the WSM family.

The 1.350" Shank 6.5 barrels are still scarce. Bartlein and Mile High told me they were 6mo out.
