By no means is this an detailed review of the Baby Eagle 9mm but rather a first impression of a Baby Eagle.
We seized (my agency) a IMI Baby Eagle in 9mm along with one high cap mag. We recently took ownership of the weapon and so this week I took it out to the range for a few days. The weapon is in great condition and appears to have very little use.
Day 1 I only had CCI Blazer 115gr and fed the Baby Eagle about 45 rds of this with approximately every 2-3 rounds failing to feed. I tried lube, clean the magazine but nothing worked so I blamed the ammo.
Day 2 I tried a some Wolf 124, Lawman 124 and 147 (flat nose) and Winchester white box 115 and 147 (flat nose). All of this ran better than the CCI 115gr but all of them failed to feed at one point or another. In the end it I got the impression the White Box 147 ran the best. Accuracy was good as far as grouping went but the Baby Eagle shot 2 inches high at 15 feet and 1 inch at 30 feet. At first I figured I was screwing something up but verified it off of a support and with two other shooters. The trigger has such a drastic curve to it I found it a bit uncomfortable after a while.
Day 3, I got so pissed off at it failing to feed I stopped shooting it.
Over all the weapon feels and points well but it is heavy, which is a good thing because it failed to feed so much you may have to use it to smash your threat in the head. In this case I am confident that the Baby Eagle is stout enough to be used as a club. The accuracy I found interesting. I have come across fixed sight handguns shooting left or right but for them to shoot two inches high at 15 feet bothered me. In the end I only fired about 200 rounds and never got a "warm and fuzzy" feeling about the Baby Eagle. Maybe it is just this specific one but maybe it isn't seeing how I rarely see anyone CONUS shooting one.
