Probably silly... but what is the preferred bags fill? Assuming sand - does it matter what type of sand? Meaning silica or something like that to help with moisture or inside fungal growth?

Thank you

Poly beads from a craft store are waterproof and light, work well. People use all kinds of stuff from rice to beans to corn to kitty litter and much more. Sand works fine but is heavy depending on how you are using the bag, also it will leak out dust from the fabric over time without a liner.

Im glad I asked... Going to check out the poly beads - i appreciate the info

I think fine sand (like sand trap sand) is the best off a bench. I have denim sand bags, with sand, for a bench or off the hood of a car, but I wouldn't want to ruck them around. The poly beads are best for a bag you're going to do positional shooting with, and I like the synthetic Holo-fil fibre for a pump pillow or bracing bag. Definitely something that can get wet if your going to put it in a match ruck.

bought two bags of these today from my local hobby store. I had a 40% & a 50% off coupon. $11 OTD.
