Baltimore Cops Kept Toy Guns to Plant Just in Case They Shot an Unarmed Person

At one point in its history, NOPD supervisors would have to tell guys to pick shit back up because they'd dropped so many different things at a scene it was too obviously bullshit.
All this latest BS will serve to do is increase the already impressive murder rate in Baltimore and likely free a bunch of shit stains back onto the streets from "tainted" cases.
FWIW, running full speed at groups of guys does in fact work to start foot chases. I always had enough foot chases but rookies trying to get into one would ask me how. I also knew guys that did it with vehicles, just riding around lighting up cars, if they pulled over the officer pulled away and turned off his lights. It's amazing how many cars at 2-3:00 AM will take off if a cop turns on his lights. Nothing like a car chase in the wee hours to wake up the supervisor.

Lol, what the fuck? That's some lazy shit right there... Almost as bad as this old cop I've heard stories about that'd get on the CB and tell people to slow down before his trap so he didn't have to write any tickets.
If you actually cared about public safety because you thought speeding was dangerous instead of just being in it for the money, the above would be a great idea. These days we have apps to do the same thing. You could have the same actual public safety result simply having a patrol officer parked well off the shoulder, watching for people actually doing crazy ass things while driving rather than endangering themselves and all the other motorists by hiding out in blind corners with a speed gun a few inches away from an accident.
The other year when I visited a couple other countries, they had big signs on the roads before the speed traps saying speed xxxxx enforcement/measuring device / police ahead, so if you actually got a ticket, you probably weren't paying attention.

Good luck with that. I think it really went south when Boy George and his mentor dickless chainy gave away all the military equipment. Ive notice a definite degrading of attitude and tactics since then. Now we have a militarized police force. Not good.
This story about Baltimore is child's play. I'm confident there's some way more heinous shit in that Dept than this.

I've heard that concern expressed, but shit like a couple of MRAPs rotting in a police facility somewhere is way the fuck down the list of how units like the one featured get all fucked up.
Take Miami for instance. I have friends who lived in a gated community with canals so you could park your boat at oyur own dock. They loved the place but chose to leave because on a regular basis the cops would close off streets in order to let the boats off load cocaine. I guess its just human nature at work. I know some really great guys who are LEO and would never do this shit, but balancing the equation there is the other side.
The cocaine cowboy days had to be ridiculous down there.

I have yet to be amazed at a police corruption "scandal". I've seen a few where you had to damn near marvel at the scale and audacity, but as long as humans do that job it's not gonna amaze me that there are idiots in places they shouldn't be doing shit they shouldn't be.
What continues to amaze me is that people are amazed.
I lived 16 years in Miami right before moving here to Texas, I found the cops to be pretty professional and hard working, even in the worst hoods.
I have been told that Baltimore PD lost 500, of 2200, officers through retirement in the months after Marilyn Mosby went after innocent officers. Since then, they have been hiring almost anyone, as most candidates will not consider working in Baltimore. When Baltimore hires from the bottom of the barrel, this is what they get.
Ding ding ding. We've got a winner, and it ain't just Baltimore. Toxic hiring and promotion practices have been destroying the profession for a while.
A tiny glimpse, and this was 15 years ago: the Dept was desperate to meet diversity hiring quotas and hired a known gang member. Said gang member shot himslef in the hand with his departmental weapon while conducting a gang drive-by while in the police academy. He graduated the Academy.
About 9 months later he got assigned to assist one of our street/intel units and the supervisor recognized him from the streets and threw a fit that he was on the PD. She went to internal affairs with her documentation going back years that he was a gang thug. She was told it was out of their hands.
Shortly thereafter that guy got "Officer of the Month".
Not long after that he was caught lying during an internal investigation with video and audio evidence that he was lying, no action taken.
A buddy of mine used to work the recruiting side of IA doing backgrounds and polygraphs. He quit the Dept after being told one too many times to pass known criminals and drug users through the system.
If it were human nature to do such acts, then why don't all humans engage in this behavior, as it is in their nature? Why do some spend their lives fighting against such nature? Why does society as a whole not approve of these human nature acts? Seems if it were in our nature, we would embrace such behavior, but we don't. The human nature argument is a cop out.
If it weren't human nature, you could kill enough of the perps it would stop. But it doesn't. Ever. Stop. Every society, every continent, every century. And every time some society sets up a new "thing", be it police or a political system, or or or, the EXACT same things happen.
Humans are a spectrum, and at one end its not good and at the other end its fantastic. But to pretend that Manson wasn't a human isn't a realistic approach.
Hell, the universal system for good we create - that thing called a society, is specifically a system for dealing with the faults of human nature. And because of human nature, scum immediately infect and sicken that society. Again, every time. Forever.
So while I don't tolerate any of the bullshit, it doesn't mean "Human Nature" isn't the perfect word to describe but not excuse the phenomenon we observe.

On one end you have the best guys you could hope to ever know that love the job because they genuinely get to do some good, it's a true calling like a vocation to the priesthood. In the middle you've got average guys that could just as easily do about 10 other things in life but decided to be cops. On the low end are just shitty fucking people who seek the job as a means of having power and some legitimate psychopaths.
It's not a coincidence that a lot of America's more infamous serial killers had wanted to be cops or worked in some "security guard" type job.
The power over other people draws some dangerous people, whether that be in LE or politics, or even business. In LE the hiring processes used to really focus on eliminating people of poor character, that isn't emphasized as much anymore. If you bring poor character into that job, there is almost unlimited potential for misconduct.

Quite well said, although the word “that job” and “government” are pretty much the same word for misconduct.
