Anyone have some direct comparisons of wrapped barrels and structured? Seem as though they achieve the same goal by different means. Which is more efficient?

If you are referring to Structured Barrels at the following website
https://tacomhq.com/structured-barrels/
I just learned about them, and find the concept rather interesting.
Just watched a video of a guy shooting a CheyTac 408 out to a mile w/ impact.

This barrel really sounds interesting. Does anyone on the Hide have more information about these barrels? I would like to learn more. Thanks.

Yep, I watched that. Seems like a sound idea, take the harmonics out and tuning becomes easier.
Shame I didn’t hear about this prior to sending the barrel off for chambering.
I would think the wrapped barrels would increase rigidity while lowering weight. Don’t think their heat dissipation would be as great though.

I read on their website where they quote Cal from the Precision Rifle Blog stating that after shooting 10 Cheytac rounds the barrel was only at 86 degrees. Sounds promising. Does anyone else out there have any experience with them?

We stopped in at the shop of tacomhq last month on our way out to Kansas to pick up a couple of Delta Taracs. It was the first time I had a chance to put my hands on one of their structured barrels. The concept and machining is very impressive and the price they are charging for the work is less than half of what it should be. It is a real value IMO if you are shooting in higher temps!

Hi,

What is the chamber and throat temperatures of "structured" barrels? That would be really easy for manufacturer or 3rd party testing to test and report.

Barrels do not wear from outside in, so external temperature can be manipulated in various ways but that doesn't mean by default the internal temperature is any lower than traditional barrels.

LW has been doing heat sink sleeved barrels for decades but you do not see or hear about them much....more than likely that is for good reason.

Sincerely,
Theis

I wasn't concerned so much with temperatures, believe they contribute to wear and not so much immediate inaccuracy (barrels are a consumable IMO). How rigid the barrel was did, if it was able to be tuned and stay tuned through various loads that would be nice.
Seems as though, in this game, about the time you figure something out there's some new way to skin the cat or the rules have changed.
