So im doing a Remington 700 SA .308 long range build and am at the point now where i want a good match grade barrel but have no idea what barrel contour i should be looking at. I have been looking at the Krieger barrels but i dont really know what contour barrel would be good for my purposes. I am wanting to use my 700 for long range target shooting (around the 1000 yard mark) and dont really care how much i spend on a good match grade barrel. I will also not be entering into any competitions. If someone could explain to me the types of contours and what would be good for me, and also recommend some good match grade barrel manufactures that would be much appreciated!

A contour should be chosen by the use of the rifle, for example will you hunt with it? Will it be bench only? The length should be 26+ inches if you are ONLY going to use it for 1,000 yds. You can get there with shorter but will have to use hotter loads which = shorter barrel life. Barrel length is a heated topic on this site. But contour is all about how much weight your willing to hump around. Varmint and benchrest barrels aren't heavy contour for no reason, they don't heat up as fast, and tend to be more accurate. Look at the F-class and Palma guys who shoot 1k a lot and see what they are using.
Yeah it will be a 'bench only' gun, and i would like to target shoot up to 1000 yards with it. I will not be hunting with it so i do not care about size or weight. I'm just looking for a good match grade barrel that can get me out to 1000 yards as accurately as possible
I know a lot of guys who shoot to 1k exclusively use 26-30" barrels in everything up to a straight taper. Some who shoot to 600 yds most of the time and 1k sometimes use 24-26" M24 contour. I think if I were you I'd go to a long range match and talk to some of the guys there. You'd be surprised how helpful they will be and may give you some insight into what you are looking for and what you might not even be thinking about.
My favorite LR Rifle is a Rem. 700 in 308 with 24 inch HS Precision SS barrel. I think HS Precision identifies the contour as a number 3. It looks to be about 4 inches straight from receiver and then straight tapered to about .92 at muzzle. This barrel has a 11.25 twist. I shoot 168's to 600 and for 1000 yard competition I shoot 175's. The rifle is fitted with a barrel band to accommodate a dovetail base for 18mm globe which is complemented with a Centra receiver sight, These sights come off quickly to allow for scope usage in any/any events when a scope might be useful. The action lays in an HS Precision stock with saddle type adjustable comb. The length of pull is adjustable too (M 24 type). A Jewel trigger set at 1 lb. and a full length Freeland fore end rail to accomodate a hand stop finishes things out. I have used this rifle for just about every kind of LR competition. The only thing I have not done is shoot it in XC, since its mag will not hold 5 rounds. At any rate, this rifle seems to get the job done without me thinking I need to fix or modify anything. I sort of see it as a standard rifle. You may like such a rifle too from what I gather by your posts.
If you plan to compete then make sure rig makes max allowable weight

Fclass F-TR does have max weight, building a rig that does not make weight can be avoided with careful planning and number crunching
Any of the big name barrels will work, i do think there is an advantage to be had from cut rifling but button barrels set records also
I normally select barrel based on which one can get to me quickest, several online stores carry a good selection on hand
