Who can tell me the muzzle diameter will be on the following at 20"

#4
Light Palma
700 Varmint/Sendero

Looking at Bartlein Contours, a Light Palma is VERY close to a #4, but tapers faster, making me think the balance of the LP will be more towards the muzzle vs. the rear of the gun. If it matters much, it will likely be a 6.5 or 7mm.

If I flute, it will be more for looks, but can anyone tell me how much weight is reduced?

Looking for info on weight differences and balance for short barrel application. Also, will a Light Palma fit a stock made for a Rem Varmint/Tactical? Or need mod?

Thanks in advance for any feedback on these profiles.

I think a light Palma would be a little thin on the 6.5-7mm, especially if you intend to flute it. I run medium Palma barrels on 6-6.5mm, my 24" med Palmas are .845 at the muzzle finished at 24", .865 measured @ 20". I am guessing you will need to mod your barrel inlet for the Palma, it has a straight taper for about 2.5" or so and then "bottle necks" down vs a slow steady taper of most barrels

I have a light Palma Bartlein on my .308, mine is finished to 26, at 20 inches it is approx. .870 in diameter. As far as fluting to reduce weight goes it depends on how deep you cut them, and the number get. A light Palma should fit with ease in the stock that you are referring to.

This is a pic of the area you will most likely need to inlet, this McMillan barrel channel was cut for a Rem varmint contour and needed to be recut for the bottle neck shape of the Palma, the rest of the barrel channel was perfect.

Doesn't sound much diff than my former 700V that was chopped to 21" in 7/08 and it was plenty stout, and shot lights out. Leaning heavy towards the Lt Palma.
Thanks much.
