Barrel Help

I have a Savage 111 in 300WM with a 26" barrel and Im going to re-barrel. Im currently looking at McGowen, Shilen and CBI. Please if you have any experience with any of these please share. Right now Im leaning towards McGowen drop in mainly because of delivery time but also cost and lack of machining needed to install. If you have any insight on quality, customer service, lead times or anything else Im not thinking of again please share.

Pac-nor will also deliver a threaded barrel. 2-3 month lead time though.

2-3 months! Is that normal? I honestly think any of these will be better than factory. McGowen has one week turn around that's the main reason I'm leaning that way. I went on to 6mmbr.com and emailed every barrel company for a quote and shipping time. Can there be that big of a difference in these after market pieces?

Give Jim at Northland a call. You will find his info on Savageshooters.com. He carries Criterion barrels for Savages. I have one and it is equal to my Bartlein and Rock barrels in accuracy at quite a bit lower price.

I've got Brux, Shilen & CBI prefits. They all shoot very well. As mentioned above, research the vendor, it'll help you in the long run ... Trust me!

MOST barrel maker are 2-3 month wait, when I ordered mine, kreiger's were 3-4 months. It is a custom order thing, if they do 200 #3 straight taper barrels, 180 might set on the shelf for years. It's a contour, caliber, twist deal. Too many. Others like Shilen have set specs and are on the shelf. You can have one in a week.

I just got off the phone last week with Bartlein and they are 6 months, Kriegers website says 6-11 months depending on caliber.

Jim at Northland was super helpful if I was willing to wait 12-14 for a Criterion or a bit longer for Shilen I definitely would go through Jim. I am going with the McGowen mainly because of time but also cost. Dennis at McGowen Outlet and Dan at McGowen are a huge help as well. You wont go wrong with any of these. Maybe I should wait until I have my barrel before i start praising everyone, but Im anticipating a fast delivery with flawless machining. In case anyone else cares to know here are the lead times I found out today. Hart is 5-7 weeks, Lothar-Walther 6 weeks, Broughton 5 months, Pac-Nor 16-18 weeks, Spencer 2 weeks but you definitely pay for it. Ive gotten no response from Douglas, Lilja, Brux and Bartlein. I realize they may be off due to the holidays but McGowen was answering my emails this past Sunday which for future readers is the Sunday between Christmas and New years the last day of the NFL reg season. So that to me screams service. Thank you all for your help.

Dan with McGowen is the MAN!! My new barrel is on its way and is scheduled for delivery on the 15th. That is fast!! I ordered it on the 29th and compared to the 12-14 lead time on their site Id say this is amazing!!

I recently inquired with them about a barrel and they gave me 12-15 week wait estimate. Hart is delivering in 5-7 so given that it will be for a hunting rifle and not a dedicated precision rifle, I went that way.
