I read somewhere that Eley sells the barrels they use for their test guns at between 150,000 and 500,000 rounds (a wide range). These barrels still shoot, mind you, but not the Eley's exacting standards. I can't seem to find that article, but I will post if I can find it. It might even be a post from someone who has visited the factory.
I don't think 1,000,000 rounds is out of the question. I used to worry about getting the barrel hot, but I have found that because I have a single shot, if I am shooting solid from "cease fire" to "cease fire," I can't put enough rounds down the tube to heat the barrel up significantly. For people who shoot 10/22's as fast as they will go, I can see wear being a problem... especially for those who are shooting supersonics.
