Would I be correct in assuming that an off the shelf Remington 700 for the same model, many are offered in both .223 or .308 caliber. The smaller caliber would get a relatively thicker barrel just due to the fact the barrel contour is identical between them. The only difference would be the smaller diameter of the caliber thus less material is drilled out resulting in a barrel with thicker walls?
