Barrel twist and pressure

Re: Barrel twist and pressure

Usually on the order of one half of one percent. Bear in mind that the M193 55 grain FMJ ball load is pretty much a max pressure loading, and yet, can be safely used in the newest fast twist guns without incident. In other words, don't worry about it, you're good to go.

That is, assuming the original load was running safe pressures to begin with, and that's on you. If you're changing guns, it'd be prudent to reduce and work back up again.

Re: Barrel twist and pressure

A bigger change will come from switching barrels in general. All barrels have varying chamber sizes and headspace dimensions, for example, and both of which can change fired case capacity and therefore pressure. Re-work your load when you switch barrels, even if the twist is the same.
