Quick question, for off the shelf budget surplus (whatever you want to call it) .223 (5.56mm) FMJ ammo what has been your experince as being more consistent with a 20" Barrel 1:9 twist, Max range would be 300yards

55g or 62g?

Thanks
Brad

Re: Barrel Twist vs. Bullet Weight (.223)

The only reason I ask is I was thinking of using my AUG A1 for the CMP events at the local range, I think they shoot out to 200 or 300yards.

I don't really want to spend the time or money on searching for the right load like I did my AR so figured I'd look at the two most common availble rounds.

Thanks
Brad

If you are shooting a reduced match (200 and/or 300) yes either will work. How ever if you are shooting the 600 yard event then I would step away from the M193s (55 grn).

Here is an interesting bit about the A2s 1 in 7 vs. the A1s 1 in 12. I know you said 1 in 9, but this will give you an ideal if you step back to the 600 yard line.
