I'd like to make this a dumping point for legit Barrett MRAD topics and news... I've got my eyes set on one of these in the factory .300WM config.

    http://www.barrett.net/firearms/mrad

So far they're going to release the .338LM first up with .308 / .300 and .260?? towards the end of this year.

If anyone comes across NEW news, please throw it in here.

    Re: BARRETT MRAD

I think they FINALLY hit the dealers this week. I'm kinda skeptical because I've never heard a single thing about return to zero tests when switching barrels. From the design there are two bolts that hold the barrel in......at least with the DTA there are 4.........

    Re: BARRETT MRAD

I talked with Kyle Lynch, and Frank about the return to zero, and if I remember correctly, it was within .1 to .2 mils from original zero, thats pretty bad ass.

LL told me when we had it for a day of testing he never popped the barrel. Maybe he's had it again since then.......

And I like Kyle he's a good guy, worked with me on a awesome deal for one till I got tired of waiting and moved on. But he's still a rep, and I'd rather wait for real reviews from LL or the folks on here.

    I agree.

I'm just saying....a bunch were in QA in early April....and this is the first posting I've seen of them making it out to dealers that I've heard of. They were supposedly making around 60 of them a month last I heard in April.

I'm just saying 2 bolts seems a little lite to me, but then again it could be a much better system than the DTA...........

I see what ya mean. Ya it will be interesting to see how they pan out when they get into folks hands. I just picked up a DTA and a buddy has an MRAD on order so it will be interesting to shoot them side by side.

I know where you're coming from with that. The majority of my field shooting is 6-900 meters so I wouldn't be doing the .338LM much justice through the 98B.
.300WM though would be a good compromise between power increase over .308 and ammo $ savings while being comfortable with the ranges we shoot at.
I don't think I'd even get any other barrels yet, just do a full swap over to .300WM.

The folding stock isn't something I'm interested in, it's just the M98B is only .338LM otherwise it'd fit the bill perfectly.
Modularity is nice but once the bipod rail was as far forward as possible it'd probably stay pretty set. It's a tool that will get a work out, not a trophy or a conversation piece.

I'm looking into the legalities with Australian law at the moment.
In Victoria where I live the minimum legal length is 75cm overall for a long arm. The folding stock, locks the bolt down in place, covers the majority of the trigger and if the safety switch is configured so it's protruding out the right hand side then the weapon is inopperable when closed making it a paperweight so hopefully I can get it passed.... Fingers crossed.

I'd swap a nut for an MRAD.

August issue of Shooting Times has a write up done by Steve Adelman. He found barrel swaps repeatedly held zero to within a 1/2MOA area. Sub 1/2 MOA 5-rd accuracy, too.

Confirming that each barrel has a unique "zero"..??

    Re: BARRETT MRAD

I won a MRAD in this years Steel Safari. It just showed up at the shop Friday. I'm leaving town in a couple days and when I get back I have the Rocky Mt 3 gun match to go to. I promise that as soon as I get home from the 3 gun match load development and field testing will start. I'll post as I get stuff done. I'm looking forward to putting this thing through it's (my) paces.
