I am looking to do my first le basic class but I am over thinking it. I was wandering if anyone would be willing to share a basic lesson plan? My range is limited to about 300yds right now and most basic classes teach out to 600, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Basic Sniper Lesson Plans

Break your class up into topics by day. Remember this is a basic class and you will have to cover a lot of topics and unless you extend the days to 10-12 hour days you may not be able to thoroughly cover and practice each craft. Some of your students may have never picked up precision rifle before. I'll send you a PM with my email address. Just hit me back with one from your agency email.

Get a USAMU Service Rifle Marksmanship Guide. You will find lesson plans there for all topics regarding basic marksmanship including the long range rifle.

Re: Basic Sniper Lesson Plans

I'm with SS on this, the best manual you can come up with and its $6.95.

If you study the SDMP program of the AMU/CMP you'll find it pretty much follows the USAMU Service Rifle Guide.

Regardless if you are shooting the 22 Rimfire Sporter Rifle of the fancy long range guns, fundamentals are fundamentals. The Guide Covers it all, and can be adapted to any method of rifle shooting.

Start at the front of the book, Use chapter and paragrah headings as a chart, work your way through the book, explaining each aspect, and you'll have an excellant program.

Re: Basic Sniper Lesson Plans

I would tell you that a true LEO Sniper course that will benefit the Officer the most will focus on three things

1. ranging the target two or three ways
2. True DOPE out to 200yds in 10yd increments
3. Proper teaching on the fundamentals of marksmanship

To many classes cover too many topics with little to no information per-topic.

This is why newly trained LE Snipers are not skilled at anything in any part of the job classification. but can figure it out with in the year of graduation. IF they have some sort of continuing education plan on the dept range.

For the wind lessons, maybe .22LR? I really think it would pay to get folks thinking about using the .22LR as an analogue for extended range training. Cheaper, simpler, and much more likely to be possible a lot closer to home.

Where can I find this? And would it work for someone trying to teach themselves basic long range marksmanship? I'm a former infantry Marine so I feel that I could probably understand it. What do you think?
