Been baiting for a couple years. Been successful with it, lots of work and very rewarding.

I have a couple bears this year that are total night time eaters. No show in the daylight hours. Heard many ways to get them to show in the daylight...

What tips and tricks does anyone have to make a nighttime bear show in the daylight ?

    thanks

Scott, Maybe try some new food types....mix it up. The guys out here that snare problem bears will say they have have different tastes just like people. I would bet if you found something that big boy really liked, he might just show up earlier....

My family has been bear baiting almost all my life up here in Alaska, first off, you have some bears that just run on a different set of times. Your big bores in the spring will come in any time that the sows are in, but this time of the year there is not the sexual motivation to come in at all hours. When we saw big tracks and we sat the night before, we started sitting in the early mornings. We started to see several bears that we never saw before. Also, make sure if you are using doughnuts or other sugary type baits, that your stand is close to a water source. The sugar burns there throat requiring them to leave more often for water. Try a bait like bread crumbs, it will hold the alot longer.

A friend of a friend found out what we were doin' years back, and gave us "a bunch" of five gallon pails of the stuff. He worked for some candy factory up around Minneapolis somewhere. Not sure if it was expired or what the deal was with it, but it worked!

If you want to be discrete try this. You will need

    1. coat hangers wire
    2. aluminum foil
    3. candle
    4. bacon grease
    5. one of those little aluminum tart cups

bend your coat hanger into the shape of a teepee (cone) in a manner where the tart cup can be held securely at the top of the teepee (cone) shaped structure. Put the candle in the cone shaped structure. cover the cone with the foil. Poke some holes for air circulation but not to many so the wind or rain won't put it out.

Fill the tart cup with bacon grease, fire up the candle and wait. This is like crack to them. Especially costal blacks.

If you have a tree stump near by pour hot bacon grease on it, they will fuck with it for hours trying to eat it to the ground. The stump grease will cool and the other will bring them in.
