Just received my B&C medalist type 2 and was wondering if I need to bed it or because of the aluminum bedding block, should it just be a drop in fit? All help is appreciated this is my first after market stock purchase and wanna do it right but reasonable to my budget.

Re: Bedding Needed ????

I would not bed it yet. Fit the action in and shoot the gun. IF once you drop the stock in and the gun shoots the groups that you want then dont bed it...don't need to since its doing what you want it to. Plus you save like 150 to 200 dollars approx on a bedding job and dont have to wait the turn around time.

Read this:

Bedding Stocks with aluminum blocks

Some rifles will shoot just fine----for a while. Others won't measure up to expectation from the get-go.

Rather than drill out the block and install real pillars, this method had worked well for me. When I removed the action from the stock after a few hundred rounds the "rub marks" were very noticeable. Adding the "risers" (I made my own from hardened washers) and bedding made all the difference in the world.

Re: Bedding Needed ????

Buddy of mine has the same stock for his .308. With proper hand loads it shot great so he never felt the need to bed it. One day he figured it can't hurt so he bedded it watching a Youtube tutorial by a hide member (STR). The rifle actually improved considerably. As mentioned the rifle was shooting great before but what could easily be noticed right away was consistency. There were no flyers!! Especially when compared to before. So my vote is undoubtedly bed it.

Re: Bedding Needed ????

My 6mm & 308 both have H-S stocks on, they both shoot .5moa or better out to 300yds. So no, dont bed it.
