...so I pick up my late number M1903 next week. Part of my family legacy.
Girlfriend surprised me this weekend with a box of 150 gr 30-06 (Remington) for the occasion.
I shoot regularly, pistol. .45 ACP 1911 pattern and 9 mm in Glocks of various enumeration. As often as I can, I try for sessions at least once every 1-2 weeks, depending on finances and time, with targets typically at 15-25 m.
I grew up shooting rifles. I started at around 8 years old. Over under Savage .22/410 combo. Quickly moved up to 7 mm mag (Remington 700 action) as a teenager with a deer gun. I used to be quite the rifle enthusiast with plenty of deer property to play on. It didn't hurt that father was Vietnam USMC who qualified Expert.
That said, I haven't pulled the trigger on a rifle in 10 years, and even longer ago than that on iron sights. The range here is 100 and 200 yards, outdoors.
I guess you could say I have the butterflies. I hope I can hit the broadside of a barn.
My grandfather on my father's side used one on Guadalcanal and in the broader Solomon Islands. My grandfather on my mother's side trained and was a decorated Army marksman with an '03. I became interested in them, naturally, after CMP ran out (both grandfathers passed away between 2010 and 2013).
