FFP being the biggest difference between the NF SFP scopes and the other scopes you mentioned. If you don't want or need FFP then you can save some money and get an excellent scope in the NF. If you wanted FFP then prepare to spend more for the Premier/USO/S&B/Hendsolt and also the NF F1, which is FFP.

Huh?
When does this apply? If something is more expensive and does not perform better than the one below it then it would never sell. Whether it's scopes, cars, computers, etc. Cost always equals performance. Now the performance differences may not be extreme like the difference between a Falcon and a Nightforce, but if any product charges more and doesn't perform more then they'll be out of business soon enough.

Just ask yourself if the Nightforce can perform every function you need it to. If the answer is yes, than the dollar per gain may not be worth it. To some it is...I have an established relationship with USO and need to look no further because their scopes completely satisfy my requirements. In other words, it fits my comfort zone. I have seldom seen customer service like what they provide.
Just don't buy something because "it's more money so that means it must be better". All the high-end scopes have their following and getting caught up in a comparison will drive you crazy. Just buy the one that fits your budget and needs and you will be ok.

I have a well-established slush fund that the wife never sees, and I enjoy using high-end optics. The benefit? None to anyone other than me.

+1. NF makes a great scope for the $$$. I've had two so far and never let me down. But I found FFP calling my name every time I turned the power down on on my 5.5 -22 NF in our steel and LR matches.
When I pulled the trigger on a PH 5-25 <span style="font-weight: bold">FFP</span> I knew right away I had come home... 3/4 rev gets me to 1K VS 3.5 revs, and the quality of the glass.... IMO night and day. Oh yea, and FFP!
All with Lifetime warranty...
And like BR said " It's a F'n tool. If ya got a need spend."

That about sums it up for me as well. I have two US Optics and the only reason I haven't replaced all of my other scopes with them is because I enjoy being married......for now.

I have used NF and still do. I have also used S&B and still do. TO me it comes down to features. I focus more on features and mechanics than some small difference in glass. All the great glass is good enough for me. Also, when the top end NF FFP, Zero stop is selling for about 2250, the 2825 for the S&B is very appealing. About the prices, I have no special source for NF but do for S&B. For a hunting scope on a portable rifle to shoot to 800 yards I use the NF 2.5-10 with the straight tube. They work well in daylight, lowlight and at night with the PVS-22. For long range tactical shooting I use the S&B's. Just love the feel of those clicks. I do not dial the NF scopes as I can get to 800 yd. without doing it with the Mil dot and .308 Win. I also use the 4-16 S&B on my varmit rifles. I do not use the illumanated one as it is bulk and weight where it is not needed.
I often see people buying the "coolest" scope without needing many of the features, which actually limit rather than help the actual use for the scope. I also notice that many people actually have no use at all for a LR Tac rifle. No place to shoot it and nothing to shoot. To each his own.

Nightforce scopes are one of the best scopes on the market for the price and they are very reliability. When you go to the NF F1 you are getting into the price range of a USO & Premier.

Jason, I can't say that I agree with you that cost <span style="font-style: italic">always</span> equals performance. The law of diminishing returns frequently applies. Think of it as a hyperbolic curve with cost on the x-axis and performance on the y-axis. What fuels the high end markets past a point is perception. Using computers as an example, when intel releases a new processor that is 0.3 GHz faster than the last one, people spend the extra $400 because of the marketing (perception). In actuality, there is no significant increase in speed; at least not $400 worth.

Now one builder will say his house is worth more b/c he built it. his reputation. his years in business etc..
Fact is you could probably general contract it with his subs, and build the same house. for alot cheaper.

I think it's common knowledge, on this board anyway, that the last 5% of performance in an optic, often blurs between the Alpha models, and frequently adds anywhere from 25% to 100% to the cost of the optic when compared to what many on this board consider the best optic for the money, Night Force Optics.
I think of that 5% improvement in image, or other characteristic of the scope, as the "Gee Whiz" factor. It is perceptible, but probably not functionally necessary in the last 5% of extreme use the end-user deploys that optic. But, Gee Whiz, that’s (that characteristic of the scope) bad ass!

Well, I had an uncle that I gave him a 4000.00 Speedy built bench gun in 6mm ackley. It was stolle panda action, shilen barrel,jewel trigger, mcmillan stock. etcc..
He bought a BSA scope from Cabela's for 379.00. I got so tired of hearing that "the BSA just made that gun" Finally it broke after 3 years. ( also he never got another gun from me )
In his mind I really think he thought the BSA was the best scope.
I do think it is interesting that most all scope company's got a shot at the Marines scope contract. And S&B came out on top.

but seriously, theres also a trust issue i have with anything i plan on using in a serious manner, from guns to cars to bikes. ideally, i want them to work as i think they should without having to think about them. if that makes sense.

but seriously, theres also a trust issue i have with anything i plan on using in a serious manner, from guns to cars to bikes. ideally, i want them to work as i think they should without having to think about them. if that makes sense.

and just another thing, when i was 18 i said i wanted to buy a car when i was 24. well, you cant buy much of a car for what i had saved, but i could buy a top shelf scope that will serve me a lifetime.
and i think good business practices deserve respect and praise, hence getting a USO made to order. i now not only have a 'no-brainer' scope but ive kept 100% of my money in an american business i respect.
and since OP played the NXS card: yes, i could have gone mil/mil F1 3.5-15 made in usa and had just as good of a scope, but in the end it was coming out around the same cost. and IMHO the EREK knob is such a magnificent, indispensable part of any riflescope there was no comparison.

there is always the sheer awesomeness to consider as well.
this can be used as a reason when reasoning only with yourself. DO NOT use the awesomeness reason for purchasing "high end scopes" on your significant other or spouse. Use boltripper's It is a tool and you need it reason.

this can be used as a reason when reasoning only with yourself. DO NOT use the awesomeness reason for purchasing "high end scopes" on your significant other or spouse. Use boltripper's It is a tool and you need it reason.

There is also the issue of bang for the buck. At some point the additional dollars may not warrant the gee whiz factor unless you have money to burn or your compensating for something or lack of something.........

They are more than 2 times better. THAT is the benefit. For many, its not worth it, and for those folks Nightforce, IOR, Super Sniper, Vortex, and many other manufacturers have a more affordable option.

I can't say spending twice as much money will "always" extrapolate to yield a scope 200% better. Let's look at it from a different perspective. If an operator wants to have a scope in order to make reasonably accurate hits (determined by his own personal requirements in this case) to a known fixed distance, without range estimation and beyond, a simple $500 scope is sufficient. He will have 100% satisfaction with the setup and call it good. Most of the folks here want more than that, and anything less will be labeled as insufficient. What do "we" want?
We want to be able to range, compensate, illuminate, return to zero without thinking about it, and have the absolute guarantee that the scope will track perfectly and return to exact zero everytime. Some want the convenience of FFP, while others don't mind the specifics of a SFP - their choice. Either way, such peace of mind comes at a cost. Technology to ensure such capability takes place inside one well modified aluminium tube will cost money. It all depends on the amount of precision demanded of the scope by its end user. The finer the precision, the finer the tools necessary; the finer the tools, the more controlled an envrionment to assemble those tools. Eventually, it costs even more money to have one company build one scope for one customer, all to a specific detail. We are now talking about a one-on-one involvement with the customer's own product. Again, a special requirement to build a specialized scope will entail a price to match.
So the question is, what do <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="text-decoration: underline">you</span></span> need in a scope, and what are you willing to spend?

I own two tactical rifles. Both are Remington 700s (.308 Win and .338 Lapua), and both are equipped with S&B PMII scopes (4-16x50 and 5-25x56). Yes, the glass was pricey - but that's how I chose to spend my money (their barreled actions remain stock).
The funny thing is that I sometimes overhear folks on the firing line making comments about the scopes, usually implying (in one way or another) that it was somehow wrong for me to spend so much money on them. It doesn't bother me; I enjoy them very much and it's really none of their business anyway. But I can't help sensing bitterness on their part.
I've come to realize that my choice to invest in high-end glass seems to pose a threat to their confidence in their decision to buy a lower-priced scope. I believe that these guys really wanted one thing but talked themselves out of it (usually because they "can't justify spending that kind of money on a scope") and bought something else. And they can be perfectly comfortable with their decision just as long as nobody else comes around that decided the other way.
Please keep in mind that I've never, ever put anybody down for their choice in equipment (but it seems to come back this way pretty often).

Spend $3300 on scope and people want to take you to task all day long about how you don't need it and how their $1500 glass is just as effective. Spend $4000 on a custom stick, however, and everybody simply "oohs" and "aahs"...
