Looking at a Benelli vinci vs the Benelli SBE - will be used for hunting, mostly turkey. Will probably trade my tactical Remmy 870 in on one of these semi autos. I have a longer barrel for the Rem for turkey, but I think that I want to pursue the semi auto route. Any preferences amongst you Benelli fans?

Re: Benelli shotgun question

SBE... once you put a few hundred threw them they cycle the cheap shit fine.... it's well balanced and the prices are coming down on them now. just my opinion.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

SBEs and similar guns don't cycle 1oz loads or some cheap shit unless they're squeaky-ass clean. A very experienced friend and dealer feels no autos are designed for less than full power 1 1/8oz or heavier loads.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I have never had a problem with any light loads in my SBE or SBE2. I fired 75,000 rds in my SBE before I had my first problem with it. Broken extractor, fixed in 30 min and it cost $40. Not a bad deal if you ask me, I am a Benelli fan no doubt. If I was in the market for a new shotgun, I would buy the new SBE2 American that Bass Pro is advertising for $1199. Awesome deal. No comfort-tech, but I hate that stock. I have one and I would rather have the non comfort tech. My $.02.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I've got an H$K marked M3 Super 90 w/standard stock (no pistol grip) rifle sights and H&K tube extension in perfect condition I'm going to be listing for $1,275 if you're interested.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I just got a Benelli Ultra Light, 12 ga, 26". Superb. Kicks like a mule, though. Light loads only and best to have a bird (as in dove, not turkey) in front of you to ease the kick. The raised rib fits my eye perfectly.

It will cycle the cheap rounds. I had some Walmart Winchester 8s (the 100 rd combo) that would not eject in a Browning Silver - the Benelli ate them for lunch flawlessly.

Who told you this. Both my buddy's have SBE2's and they run light loads perfectly. They are well broken in.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

i have shot both the benelli sbe and the sbe 2

get the sbe2 the redesign of the stock and other parts is way worth it.

the sbe 2 will eat anything you put through it. i have submerged mine in mud duck hunting, rinsed it out in the river put it back together and shot it.

it is a work horse. that dealer is insane. they digest all loads.

get the 26" barrel not a 28" i have a 28 and wish i had a 26.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

My 2 SBE's 9 one original H&K, one not, both eat anything from light dove loads to 3.5 Black clouds. Only issue is if your plunger assembly in the butt gets funky ( one of mine did due to extreme repeated salt marsh mud submersion) it may become a single shot. Shure cycle makes a stainless replacement.

Best semi on the market, not cheapest.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

The key to getting any Benelli to cycle light loads is to make sure you have the Field Inertia spring installed in the bolt group. There are two springs a Field and a Tactical. For whatever reason Benelli does not seem to qc this as tightly as they should and you will see a lot of the field guns with the heavier Tactical Inertia Spring and thus have subsequent problems with light loads.

Get a Field Inertia Spring from Brownell's if you are having troubles with light loads.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I have turkey hunted with a sbe 24" barrel for years and upgrade to a sbe2 26" and it made a great improvement on my patterns and range. What ever you decide DO NOT get a barrel shorter than 26 inches that was a major diference in my guns you tend to loose alot of velocity with the shorter barrel. I hope the info helps.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I have several Benelli Shotguns and use them primarily for pheasant. They function and balance so well that it's been tough for me to go back to the side by sides that I truly enjoy. I shoot the legacy, sport, and montefeltro style guns that have the a more slender forend.

They are all good and you should pick the one that has the balance and fit that works for you.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

I've shot lots of the Benellis, and owned a sport 2 and an m90. Until the Vinci, the comb of the stock was never quite right for me, but I could make do.

I shoot lots of sporting clays, and use the Benelli as my foul-weather gun for days when the over-under hides from the rain. Have also used it on pheasant.

Vinci fit me well off the shelf, and really fits me well with the included shims.

It is a bit less of a hammer on the shoulder than the SBE, etc... but that sort of judgement is pretty subjective. (Obviously, none of them are as soft as a gas gun). The stock/operating system on the vinci make the kick feel like a spongey shove.

I'd buy another one if mine ever dies.

BTW... rumor has it that there is supposed to be some sort of drop in price in the Sept/Oct timeframe.

Re: Benelli shotgun question

OK here is a strange question for you Benelli guys. I have an H&K/Benelli M1 Super 90. What WOOD can be had for this stick from the factory? Trying to sort out all the labels and acronyms is killing me. Plastic is fine for Home D and 3 gun but I get the hairy eyeball from the old fellas at hunting camp. (and that's after I swapped out the 8 shot tube, 20" bbl and dropped the side saddle).

Cheers,

Doc

Re: Benelli shotgun question

You might want to call and ask them direct. Also, you will need the 'cool tool' to change it out, or have fun with regular hand tools. I had to get one for mine when it was sent to my FFL in NY. I traded it off before moving for a couple six packs and a bottle. You would not believe how incredibly ugly it made the gun. Fugly doesn't even begin to describe the ugliness of a tactical shotty with a wood stock

My SBE has had a hard time cycling birdshot. I was told to break it in with a box of 3 1/2 inch nitro mags to get it going. Still have yet to do it.
