Back from the break in. After the first 6 shoot one/clean one bullets, I put 2 fast groups of 3, cleaning between. They went 1” and .90. This was all done with Hornady Black. Shot a few more 3 shot groups all under 1”. Then I Switched to Hornady ELD Match and shot 6 groups between .79 and .207” Heres how that string looked. Shot at 100 yards. Chrono’d at 2850 average.
3shots-.77
4shots-.62
5shots-.79
Settled in and tried hard:
3 shots-.283
3shots-.207
4shots-.58
All shot with a $300 Athlon and crappy $30 bipod I yanked off my .22. And rear bag prone.
Someone asked about the build and parts used. Here’s the list.
Bergara HMR 6mm Creedmoor.
Bedded at the lug.
I then lightly sanded the stock with 3m abrasive pads and painted with Rustoleum Roof Accessory paint in burnt bronze and brown. Followed with 2 coats of Rustoleum clear Matte lacquer. Cured in the sun all day. I figured a paint made for roof flashing would be tough and I was right.
The pic rail is an Area 419 made for this stock. Also Area 419 20 MOA scope rail.
Currently waiting on an Arken EP4 4-16x50 I picked up here.
I’ll likely go with an Atlas bipod.
Just goes to show you don’t need to buy a custom gun to get a shooter these days. Yeah I know this gun isn’t cheap but the standard B-14 HMR is no slouch either. If this one can shoot 1/4 inch with factory ammo before it’s fully broken in and without even having worked up a hand load yet, I can’t wait to see how it does in the future once I work up some loads for it and get a few hundred down range.
Here are a few groups from the break in session. I’m really impressed with how close the cold bore shot is to the main group.
