Bergara/sk pistol match special

I like Pistol Match Special, but if it's a match barrel, like say my Vudoo, it'll be on avg 1100 fps which might go supersonic depending where you live on some shots.

I run it in my 10/22 now, since it runs like 1050 in the 10/22.

I have had several rifles that have performed well SK and Lapua pistol match ammo at 50 yards. I have never chronoed it or tried it at longer ranges so I really cant say how it would do for that.
Rimfires can be somewhat picky so unfortunately there is just no way of knowing how it will perform if your particular rifle without trying it though. You might find that it is great, you might find that the rifle does not like it.

I've had great results w it, but that was from a lot I had 9 months ago.
Edit: Sorry, that was through a 455. Of course it's probably as useful information as any, every barrel/rifle is different even among like brands.

I got a lead on a case of SK PMS. given the lack of ammo around is it worth it? will it perform?

Everything I have put through my B14R has shot well...but I've never tried SK Pistol Match. Odds are it will shoot well, but it is always a risk. If it shoots poorly, I don't think you will issues finding someone else to buy it from you.

SK Pistol Match Special is a variant of one of the two basic "loads" made by SK, one them being the SV round nose ammo, nominally rated at 1073 fps, the other being the 1106 fps round nose ammo. Pistol Match Special is from the 1106 fps line and it's one of two lesser grades, the top being SK Long Range Match, the other SK Biathlon Sport.

SK Pistol Match Special performance will vary by lot, just like any ammo.

Here's how the SK ammos are graded:

According to Geoff Esterline, director of marketing for Capstone Precision Group, which handles SK’s marketing here in the U.S., SK produces just two different loads with the 40-grain round-nose .22 projectile. One is factory rated at 1,073 feet per second (fps), the other at 1,106 fps.

“Each production run is sorted by quality, measured through accuracy and group size at 50 meters from their lot acceptance testing tunnel with a return-to-battery-style test fixture,” said Esterline. “The best-shooting 1,073-fps ammunition is packaged into SK Rifle Match. And it’s equivalent in the 1,106 fps variant is the new SK Long Range Match.

“These are the two best performers,” Esterline said. “From there, you work down. Second-best quality for 1,073 fps is SK Standard Plus, then Pistol Match and lastly Magazine. Second-best quality for 1,106 fps is Biathlon Sport, then Pistol Match Special.”

It appears the "flatnose" varieties and semi-auto ammos are not accounted for in Esterline's explanation.

Below is a chart from SK showing certain details of the various varieties of ammo. Note that the "pistol" ammos are tested in shorter barrels than the "rifle" ammos. For test barrel lengths, refer to the last column.

For me in my guns Pistol Match Special and Eley Match have been the two best performers. Strangely they have been consistently better than their 'better' brethren Tenex/ Long Range Match/ Biathlon Sport. Pistol Match Special has been especially good at 50m, at longer ranges it appears to be more sensitive to wind than Eley Match.

If you like to look at graphs, here are some 100m 5 shot group sizes (in MOA) plotted for several different ammo types. The 50m and velocity plots look similar.

Note i only have data from two guns so there is no guarantee that Pistol Match Special will work well for you, but several batches of it have worked very well for me.

I’ve shot eley match, club, target, practice 100, Lapua center-x, sk rifle match , biathlon, and pistol match special out of my cz457. SK PMS has had the most consistent groups from 50-100yards out of all the ammo I have tested.
So good call on Picking up the case

My b14r shoots it very well.

I guess it makes sense now that I get slightly better accuracy from long range match, when it shot pistol match special.

Still my go to practice ammo, as it's $25 cheaper per brick and I only lose about .2 at 50.
