I worked up a load with 155gr Berger VLD's for my 308 and it is shooting very well. I would really like to use them for hunting (deer) but I am worried about their performance. Do any of you have experience with these bullets on deer? I'm shooting them at a little over 2900fps.

Re: Berger Hunting VLD's

I've used the 175 VLD's at 2620 and the 155.5 berger, both made good holes, and dropped the animals quickly. Just keep the shot placement good and there should be no problems.

Re: Berger Hunting VLD's

A friend of mine has killed six or more with the 155's in a 308win and they have been doing the job. Most of the time they have produced small holes going in and lots of damage after entry. I have been shooting the 6.5 130 VLD's and they have done well so far.

Re: Berger Hunting VLD's

This last season my hunting partner took three antelope and two deer with a 6.5-284 running 140gr hunting VLD's. All of the shots had great initial penetration and expanded nicely. They remind me a lot of Sierra Game Kings in the way that they preform. Anyway I am going to be using 168gr hunting VLD's in my 7 WSM this season after seeing the positive results from last year.

Re: Berger Hunting VLD's

I've now taken:

1. 4 antelope with 168 gr. VLDs out of a 300 Weatherby Magnum.

2. 2 deer with 168 gr. VLDs out of a 300 Weatherby Magnum.

3. 1 deer with 115 gr. VLDs out of a 25/06.

The last one was the most interesting. The deer was walking away so my only shot was from the rear. The 115 gr. VLD hit the back of the left rear leg and angled toward the right lung and killed it.

So, no worries; your VLDs should kill deer just fine.

You got them weird looking ones over there dont ya? How big are they?

Re: Berger Hunting VLD's

I'd love to try them myself but noone seems to have the 190's in stock. If anyone knows a source, let me know. Otherwise, I'd be happy to trade some 175 SMKs for some 190 hunting VLDs.
