im currently building a rifle and the next steps are rebarrel and get a scope. im building it pretty much as a practice rifle similar to a m40a1 (if you want to see the project its under the gunsmithing forum "Budget K98 Build") so i want to get a similar power optic. it needs to be a fixed power 10x with perfferably a mil-dot reticle. i dont mind to much about objective size. i have been looking at a Bushnell 3200 10x40 is this a good way to go?

Re: best 10x fixed power

Thats a good scope but don't forget to look at the super snipers from SWFA.com in 10x one is only $300 and up to I think $800 for the one with mil/mil and HD glass. Either way they are both good scopes.

Re: best 10x fixed power

Leupold Mk4 10XM1 if you don't mind Mil/Moa scope. You can find one one the Optics for sale page at a good price. The SS 10xHD is available in Mil/Mill and is probably the best value with that option. If you don't mind spending a little money S&B 10x42 Mil/Mil is the best on the market (my opinion). JAA

I concur completely, but was assuming a price range.....

Re: best 10x fixed power

This is a great post: In the answers to the "best Fixed 10x"

We get:

The "Best" 10x sub $200 scope = Bushnell 3200 10x42mm

The "Best" 10x $1700 Tactical scope without PA = S&B 10x42mm

The "Best" 10x scope for beating folks over the head and it still works category = USO ST-10

The "Best" 10x scope for shooting at shit ridiculously far away due to 125+ MOA of adjustment = SS 10x42mm

The "Best" 10x w/MIL/MIL on a performance/$ sliding scale = SS 10x42MM HD

That's a whole lot of "Bests". Somewhere in that list there is a "Best" for everybody......

Re: best 10x fixed power

Seeing as this is a "budget" build ... I would have to recommend the $300 SS 10x42. I have one of the HD versions in mil/mil and am very pleased with its performance.

Fixed it for you. You'd understand if you've ever held one.

Re: best 10x fixed power

I love my ST10. I had forgotten how solid and robust it is till I dismounted it yesterday. The thing feels like I could beat down a door, bludgeon the shit out of someone and not lose my zero. I especially like the EREK knob.

Re: best 10x fixed power

I just picked up an used st10 and the scope is awesome. I don't have any personal experience with any of the other fixed power scopes. I have a nightforce and leupold vx-III and i think i like the st10 better than the nightforce. I was alittle worried about not having ergo adjustment and a 37mm objective but the scope looks good on the gun and the erek knob is awesome. Shot it at 950 yesterday for a couple of quick shots and the scope worked awesome. I am positive you couldn't go wrong with an ST-10 but from the sounds of it the other scopes are pretty good to.

Re: best 10x fixed power

I have an old Bausch & Lomb Elite Tactical 10X. It's a great scope with tons of travel (mine has 128 minutes). Crystal clear with great knobs and 30mm tube. They were issued to the Navy on their M25 rifles. If you can find one and get it. See Sniper Country review.

im building a custom .308 mauser. its planned to be pretty low budget. i plan to use it for out to 600 yd. competition but also a little bit of white tail. whats the MSRP/average retail on a SS 10x and the HD? does any one know a good deal on them?

That's what I was thinking. Any ideas on the amount of travel in the elevation turrets?

Re: best 10x fixed power

Adj Objective is adj objective. That is your paralx adjustment. ERGO adjusts the ocular for your eye to bring the reticle into focus(I wear glasses so I LOVE the ERGO).
Hands down, the best glass that I have seen is the USO ST-10 for a fixed 10x scope. I would love to be able to look through NF, S&B, HuDisco, Leupy, and the new SWFA SSHD(especially that one) to compare them all at once but I don't see that happening before the Apocolypse

This is a fantastic scope. Sniper central as a limited review as well.

Re: best 10x fixed power

For the price, I've been very happy with my SS on my 223. That said, I wish I could buy a USO. Just because as stated above, you can just about beat it into the ground and it still holds its focus. Not sure that others can do the same.

Re: best 10x fixed power

Super sniper.I owned one and it performed flawlessly. I got the best group out of a 300 wm PSS using that scope and I was impressed. And for the money I was impressed even greater. I even sold it to a good buddy who is now on the hide and he loves it as well.SmokeRolls
