So after learning how to shoot my rifle, I've decided to pick one good ammunition and stick with it. I do not reload yet, and price isn't that big of a deal. It seems like the Federal Premium and Black Hills are the top quality match ammo that I've seen. Is there anything else I should consider? I'm only doing long range target shooting. I also found some HSM 220gr HPBT Match Ammo on another site. Would that be any better than the other two listed above?

The "best" will be ones you roll on your own. Short of that, the following are good factory options in addition to the ones you listed in your post:

1) Federal Gold Medal Match 190gr; and

2) Corbon Performance Match 190gr.

Depending on what twist you have on your barrel, you may get better performance all around with heavier bullets (but the problem is the lack of "match" commercial offerings with bullets in the 210gr and 220gr range). I am not personally a fan of HSM ammo as I have found it to be inconsistent. Your mileage may vary as there are folks here that really seem to like HSM.

Like gugubica said...only after you have tried different commercial offers (or you go through the process of load development) will you really know what works best for your rifle.

Like people said, the best ammo is the one that you roll yourself, because it is tuned to your rifle. If you don't reload, it can get a bit expensive, but if your wallet permits, then it's great.

With the 190 SMK, you may not get the maximum distance out of the 300 Win Mag. IMHO, the 208 AMAX is great to go, but you may have a hard time finding the ammo for that. It then goes back to rolling your own. Just saying...

Black Hills is basically an A191 (Mk248 Mod0) clone using the 190 SMK. Depending on how you define "long range", the HSM load, which mimics Mk248 Mod1 and was chosen by the US Military to replace Mk248 Mod0 in circumstances where more range and and downrange energy were needed, may better suit you needs.

Having said that, THE LR/ELR load in a 300WM is arguably topped by the 208, as mentioned. Available for $27/box and a BC of .648... hard to beat.

Agreed with all others. If you say budget is not a problem... Go buy some reloading gear and you can make a load better than any match ammo you can buy. That's more less the whole reason for going to the range. If any mass produced ammunition would shoot best out of everyone's gun they would make so much more money. Since every gun has a guaranteed difference then you gotta tune the best for your gun. If you are lazy and don't want to reload then you will have to buy some of each one and figure out which is best for you. (best for you would be to reload though)

+1 Even if you live in an apartment, reloading is the way to go. Failing that, you have to try every brand and type to find out what your rifle likes the best, i.e. most accurate.
