been doing a little research on this subject

i am looking to pick up one of the 20in threaded Remington factory offerings either the 11.25 twist 5r or the 10 twist aac-sd

my target will be some pigs i have absolutely zero experience with subsonic hunting but would like to put a dent in the local pig population. all shots will be under 100yds, head shots on the big ones.

i have looked into the outlaw state bullets and heard 180g round nose are worth a look.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

i am leaning towards getting the 20in 5r but if the 10twist of the aac is better then i will pick up one of those

will run 155g berger vlds in the gun when the can is off

Re: Best 308 Subsonic Killing Bullet

My personal choice is the faster twist barrel throwing the 220 Hornady RN at subsonic speeds.

With subsonic ammo, keeping things quiet and upping the thump to be had can only really be done 1 way. Make the bullet heavier.

I have done a bit of culling with subsonic ammo. I quit ever trying to put "vital organ" shots on an animal, if I can't crush the skull shot, I let it walk rather than wound and have it run, only to die in agony over a length of time.

I think you're right on with the 10tw of the AAC Shootone.

Like Bohem stated, heavier is better, something RN is going to stabilize better than a vld type at 1000 fps and staying under 100 yards. 180-220 RNs are going to be your ticket I think.

My 308 shoots 175smk's at 1030fps under an inch. Don't discount the match bullets if they shoot good and stabilize well. If you are head shooting the round nose isn't much of an advantage unless they shoot more accurately. My barrel is a 1:10 twist and 20".
