Range Report Best 5.56 AR Match Ammo

I have shot Mk262 clones for as long as I have had my SPR build. Usually that means Black Hills Re-manufactured 77grain BTHP. They are good enough for me.

I see Fiocchi offers 77grn BTHP for substantially cheaper per round. I have had good luck in the past with their 69grn BTHP. Does anybody have suggestions or experiences? I don't shop for ammo often because I buy in bulk for consistency, and reloading is just not something I care to do. Thanks!

Be aware... not all 77gr loads are the same velocity.... not a big deal at a few hundred yards... but, further then that and it becomes apparent.

And I suggest you buy one of each brand 77gr, and see which your rifle likes best.

This. At 100- 200 yards 2600-2700fps is fine, but at 700- 800, in the wind, Black Hills red box , or IMI 77gn. at 2850fps. is worth the money.

This ^^^. Run it in the wife’s RR 20”. Trues out at 2740 at a low to very negative DA.

Let us know what you find. I don’t believe you mentioned the distance you typically go out to. A few over a chrono will produce good data of what may see further out.

I'll chrono the stuff and update the thread. My buddy is borrowing it right now, so it might be a month or so.

Short answer: 700 meters.

I seek to stretch the legs on the 5.56 gas gun. I'm shooting in a PRS style comp this spring. I am aware that it isn't enough round, but it's what I have, and I can compete with myself. Other than the caliber, it's a great gun. Magpul PRS, DD upper, Vortex scope. I might give it a 224 barrel at some point.

Does Magtech test fire from a 16” barrel?
Everything I can find on them says 2790 fps

I have not found anything faster or more accurate than the Black Hills Mk262 Mod 1. This is new factory ammo not remanufactured. The Black HIlls 77 TMK load is a close 2nd but the MK262 was a little more consistent. The TMK is a much better defensive round overall but either one with get you out to 700 with an 18" barrel.
