Best Barrel maker?

I love the "whats the best" threads. The reality is that just about all of the top barrel manufacturers out there will shoot better than the shooter himself is capable of. Broughton, Schneider, Rock, Benchmark, Brux, Krieger, Bartlien, list goes on. There are a lot of fantastic smiths on this site as well, what I would recommend is calling a few and talking to them, see who will get you done in the time frame and price you desire. Many of the well known smiths here will have barrels on hand or a direct line to the barrel manufacturer to get the barrel you want.

Its more about the smith and the way he spins the barrel and the chamber, start there first

Who's the BEST barrel maker?

Well, there's probably 20-30 people worldwide in the "running" for BEST.

So, who is THE best?

The one who got home from work last night to a clean house, kids with their homework done, a tasty dinner and a horny hot wife.

I'd guess it changes from day to day.

I've been on the site, for a few years, now. BUT, I'm still a virgin... please be gentle. Just trying to avoid calling Superior Tactical whatever, with out this boards feed back.

I'm not bustin your balls. I have had at least one of about every barrel out there, and rifles made by MANY smiths here on this site and a few that are not. If there is one thing I have learned, who builds the rifle determines how it shoots more than what barrel maker you go with. I currently run Benchmark Barrels on most of my rifles, and have a few Broughton barreled rifles, they all shoot side by side because the smith(s) who built them know what they are doing. Surgeon for example uses Krieger barrels exclusively, although Krieger is not the "go to" barrel in the world of tactical rifles (based off of popularity).

.

This about sums it up perfectly. I ended up going with a Bartlien 5R 1/11.25 twist #7 M40 profile barrel. I originally wanted a Rock Creek but after finding out the wait was about 12 months I chose the Bartlien since they had exactly what I wanted in their in-stock ready to ship inventory. I would recommend choosing any of the top manufactures that can get it to you the fastest.

Understandable.

Any of the gunsmiths frequently named here are quality. If you've got a local(ish) smalltime guy you're interested in using, ask about him specifically to get feedback from others who've used him.

For barrels, defer to your smith. If they have no preference, buy any custom brand pipe and you'll be fine, all of the 10+ custom barrel shops are excellent.

My first custom barrel was a 7mm Brux, it shoots lights out. For number 2 I went with a Bartlein, it also shoots great. A 6.5CM is on my short list and its whichever bugholes has in stock in the contour I want
