Apologies but I've searched and haven't found any similar thread. What would you buy for a rangefinder for under $500 that has a decent reticle and performance? Something that's in stock and proven, not some vaporware from Shot Show that won't be on the shelves until Summer. My only experience has been with bargain RFs that poop out at 250 yards.

I've had excellent luck with the Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX. They are pretty inexpensive and work really well. I have used them to 1,000 ranging steel.
Lots of good deals on the Leica 1600B as well which has really nice optics.

EuroOptic has the newer Leica 2000b for $549 but they give you a $100 store gift card as well. Gut tells me this is the best deal.
Brownells has the Bushnell Elite 1 mile Conx RF on sale for $299 but they seem overly complicated even though that's a good price.
Sig 2200 cheapest I see is $469 and the Cabela-branded ones they sold for $369 are sold out. When I search I get 50-50 reviews. If I could buy one for $369 I probably risk it.
Nikon 4K is coming for $450-ish. People say it should be great but it doesn't exist and I've never heard of anyone using Nikon's earlier RFs for long range. And I learned my early adopter lesson with computers....
I have a Kestrel 5700 non-Elite coming so I think I want a simple no-BS RF without calculations but I'm dithering....

The Nikon is the real deal. It might be worth the wait.
The Sig 220 has served several friends well without the problems that plagued some of the Kilo 2000 units.

That new Nikon has stabilization on it. I haven't tried it yet. I know that I had the Vortex Ranger 1500. It was garbage. Barely could tap a small reflective target at 684 yards. I upgraded to the Leica 2700-B. Bitchen rangefinder period. You aren't going to get into that bad boy for less than $800 though.

I use 'Maps Measure' for my android to look at distances for a ton of things. Those are pretty much spot on. Sometimes I take my RF out and compare, but they are always really close.
I measured the neighbors field to see if i could get 1k shooting across it. My app only showed spots between 800-900 yards. I hit it with the CONX last night and all my measurements were right there.
The sat views are great for scouting.

The Leica wins for sure. It's been very accurate in my experience. That's an awesome deal too.
Yes they are, I just can't justify spending big bucks on a rf. I checked lots of things I know are correct and Distance Tool is gtg. Home plate to second base, mile section lines, known distances that were on jobs I did.
Thanks guys. Yes the phone/maps/GPS solution is pretty interesting, I'm sure there are a few situations where it won't work but I bet there are a comparable number of situations where RFs won't work either! Seems like a really good Plan B to practice with as well.
I think I'm going to go with the Leica though, the price is attractive and it exists now, so I can play and practice with it during rehab instead of putting off the purchase to Summer. I have the rifle set up in my office and figure I can do a lot of dry firing on the neighborhood lol.

Not really, because the ConX is only limited by the limitations of the user and it is IPX 7 (waterproof) rated where most others on the market are rated to IPX 4 (splashproof) and unlike some it has a built in tripod mount, and Bluetooth switchable to pair it to the best windmeter ever made with an accuracy of 1 yard within a Mile, Even the Terrapin is not that close (Within 5 meters) not to mention that they copied Bushnells Idea by with making it Connect to the Kestrel over 2 years after Bushnell started selling the ConX that could already do that.
Bushnell invented the Pocket LRF ( PLRF )and everyone copied it and then they invented the Bluetooth LRF and now others are copying it again, and just because it has the brand Bushnell on it and not some German or Swiss brand people are quick to put them down, If people would drop the brand Snobbery they would realize that the ConX is a double edged Sword.
Nikon stabilized 3000 is available now and has proven to range well past 2000 pretty reliably.

You're saying the ConX is more accurate than the Terrapin? I thought the Terrapin was the standard that others were compared to? Have you compared both, or are you just repeating what they advertise?
I haven't. I can only say that the range the Leica gives me has always agreed with the numbers my ballistics app gives me. Im certainly not an expert on this.
On the new Terrapin they Quote an accuracy of 2m for distances between 20 and 1000m and 3m between 1000m to 2000m and an accuracy within 5m at distances of 2000m and above,
Don't get me wrong the Terrapin is awesome, and the reason everyone loves them is because how far they can range, The ConX like most Bushnell LRF's are accurate to within 1 yard all the way out to 1760 yds and within half a yard under 200yds/200m. the real Accuracy is closer more like 2" to 4".
People buy because of the brand thing and the fact is if you live in Oregon or Alaska or you mainly hunt in those areas then you are going to need a waterproof LRF because most of them are only IPX 4 rated, And if a person has paid the big bucks to go on one of those type hunts then it would pay to have an LRF that is waterproof even if they just buy it to use in those wet areas and use the more expensive brands for dryer conditions, I could not forgive myself if I Drowned/Killed a $2000 LRF.

Well over here ( UK ) they are still charging £549.00 which is about $709 +/- and there is no discount, I paid 709 for mine this time last year, regardless of the cost I am happy with mine.
In what way exactly ?.
Being able to range at 4k+/- has no use in a Hunting or Tactical world unless I need to call in Air Strikes, that would piss off the neighbours although at times I have wanted to, Lol.

I just saw Brownells discontinued the Bushnell Conx Elite 1 mile rangefinder I bought one for $300 a few weeks back. Any word why they discontinued?
No word from Bushnell and it is still on their site and many others, Most likely Brownells are not making enough profit because of the huge price drop Brownells is just one store every other company still has them in stock so they have most likely stocked another brand like the new Nikon's, bottom line it's all about profit and they have to go where the money is, But a few of the other brands have had their fair share of issues and there is new models coming out all the time.
