seems to be three that are talked about the most from what i found.

Side-shot vs phone skope vs eagle eye

the eagle eye is alot more money and uses a go pro (which i have as well) but if the other 2 are junk it might be the smart move etc..

might go between 2 rifles, depending on how it works or ease of change.

currently will be using a IPhone.

or are there any new ones on the horizon or from shot show that we havnt seen yet.

thanks

Thanks for sharing that link Doug, is the Carson a universal mount, meaning can it attach to almost any sport optic like a rifle scope, binocular, spotting scope, etc.?

OP - for static images I don't see a need for an adapter with a steady hand you can get a pretty good through the scope shot, I usually take a bunch of pics before I get the perfect one but it's usually not that bad. If you want something to take video though a device; however, a unit like this would be a necessity, I've thought about doing some through the scope videos but not sure if it's really necessary for what I do. I think the new Phone Skope Skoped Vision unit is unique and would be a great training aid for others to actually see what you're seeing through the scope, but I don't like how you have to buy an adapter for every new phone or phone case and wish they had a universal adapter that would adjust to whatever case you use.

@wjm308 the side shot is awesome using it to take through the scope videos. What I will say with the phone skope version is be careful because it takes up most if not all of your eye relief so it’ll smack you on the forehead. The side shot however has one of those accordion style eye cups like on a NV device. I’ve seen a couple guys shoot a PRS stage with the side shot on. Works really really well.

Thanks, that’s what it looked like.
I’ll order a side shot.

I’ll throw out a dissenting opinion on the Carson. I have one and I find it doesn’t have the clamping strength/stability to hold a heavier phone (iPhone 8plus in my case) well, gravity tends to pull it out of alignment with the eyepiece. Anyone have suggestions for a fix? I’ve been looking to getting the Phoneskope.

Thank you noob, I hadn't even seen the side shot, the fact it is "universal" for any scope case makes it a winner in my book! I am curious though how difficult is this unit to setup and get right - https://www.side-shot.com/online-store/Side-Shot-phone-Mount-p78834419

I just got the side shot and it’s really easy to set up. The ring can stay on the scope and you can slide the assembly off. You can get other rings for other scopes to leave on as well.
Thanks Jesse, that is great to hear, the more I hear the more I like.

Shameless Plug - if you are looking for some great suppressor covers or bags, accessories, check out Jesse's website PrecisionUndergroundRifleGear.com, I just bought a suppressor cover from him and really like the quality.

Back to the side shot, how easy is it to remove and attach the attachment ring to the scope?

Lol thanks!

It’s very easy. The ring in just a hinged ring that clamps on and it has two finger knobs that loosen to accept the assembly. I haven’t taken it out to the range yet but I had it up and running within 5 minutes.

I picked up a Novagrade universal adapter because I was sick of the stupid phoneskope adapters to fit specific phones. Works really well. Tad on the heavy side, but built like a brick shit house. Don't think I'll ever need to replace anything on this. Works great. Pricy though. Interesting clamping method. https://novagrade.com/shop/phone-adapter/

I've not had any issues with my Skoped Vision smacking me in the forehead, and it's literally got the exact same accordion style eye cup you're referring to on the side shot.

The side shot is the best mount available. It uses very little of your eye relief, it mounts up in seconds and you don’t have to look through the phone like a video game. You can use the rifle as normal, a buddy of mine has shot several matches with and I videoed a few hunting pics with it. We all had different phones and this adapted to them all with ease.

Hmm interesting. Maybe the one I saw was an early model cause it sure took up all the eye relief on an Atacr forcing you to basically touch it to be able to use it while doing barricade/mover work.

I just realized that the clamp requires some space on the tube, what is the dimension of the clamp as some scopes offer very little in extra space on the tube like this one

Yep that's not gonna work. I'll have to measure but its roughly the size of a small 2 screw scope ring.

I spoke with Kevin from Novagrade and he informed me that the universal adapter was not built for rifle scopes and therefore could not make any comments. I will be checking it out this weekend using my Christensen 338 Lapua with a Vortex rifle scope. I will update next week

I will be very curious your results, this unit looks ideal as a "universal" device

As I promised I will give a review of the Novagrade cell phone scope adapter. I decided to upgrade to the double gripper knowing that the 338 Lapua packs a punch. So it arrived last week Thursday put it on my scope (vortex 6 to 24) and knew immediately that I was going to have to do some southern engineering. Went to the local hardware store and found a rubber coupling that went from 1.5 inches to 1.25 inches and then a short piece of PVC to create eye relief. Unfortunately, my cell phone has somewhat of a rounded back and did not want to sit in the double gripper which caused serious alignment issues. It seemed like the parallax was way off; however, multiple adjustments did not make much difference. Therefore, I would not recommend the nova grade universal adapter on a rifle. It does work exceptionally well on a spotting scope or binoculars which is their intended purpose.
Feel free to contact me and I can send you video of what is seen on the cell phone through the scope.

I am not sure why I was not able to find Tactacam before; however, they have a product that came out recently (spring of 2019) that will allow you to record your hunts through your scope and also view using a Wi-Fi enabled device what the scope is using. It appears that they will be giving go Pro a run for their money when it comes to active cameras in the hunting and shooting community. I am hoping to get to the range shortly to try out their product. Another company to take a look at is ATN.

Really appreciate your feedback and efforts to make it work. I had a feeling the eye relief would cause too many issues, why phoneskope and some of the others can't figure out a "universal" mount like Novagrade...

Because then they can’t sell the average joe a new adaptor every two to three years when you upgrade your phone thus ensuring that the product line has an infinite loop of future sales.

It's like the cell phone and case companies, with each new iteration of phone they almost always make it slightly different in size thus requiring you to buy more cases, drives me nuts, bad enough I have to buy a new Otterbox Defender each time, but now I'd have to purchase a new case for the skoped vision or whatever item. Maybe Novagrade will make an adapter for their system that would allow for the extra eye relief of rifle scopes.

I think I’m just going to buy an old generation refurb phone dedicated to use as a camera for the borescope and spotting scope digiviewing. If the battery is crap I can piggy back it in with the labradars power bank since I’m already lugging that around ?
