I have a savage model 10 with a choate stock. I am reloading currently but was wondering what factory ammo would be the best choice. I am currently loading 168 and 175 smk's over h4895 with win and Remington brass and cci primers. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Savage 10FP will respond nicely to many factory match ammo selections. Like many entry level match-capable rifles; it has a barrel length, weight, and twist that is compatible with these relatively generic match loads.

It can be made to shoot better with 168/175gr match projectiles, but the compulsion to get going with that is much reduced. You can either shoot the factory stuff, or get started with handloading for accuracy.

Many of my earlier shooting partners and I have followed that route.

Ive shot FGMM 168/175 and Nosler 168. Found that FGMM shot better (0.4moa) even though Nosler rounds looked prettier. I was quite surprised how well the model 10 shoots out of the box.

For paper punching I would say 40gr IMR 3031 with a 168 SMK HPBT would be a good starting place for a load development. For hunting ammo ADI makes some really good ammo I think it is called the ADI outback that uses 165 SGKs that gets me about a 1 inch grouping with a Ruger American in 308.
