I kicked the chewing tobacco habit about 30 years ago. I slipped while fly fishing at Bennet Spring State Park in Missouri. Reflex was to take in a big breath before I went underwater, but the problem was that I should have spit about30 seconds earlier. The juice went down as I went under and came back up as I was pulling my wet and cold ass up onto the bank. I laid there a few minutes while the world spun around me. o_O:sick:

Haven't chewed or dipped since.

I've dipped timberwolf fine cut natural for 10+ years now. Many brands over 35 years.
Black Moriah
Mammoth cave twist
Applejack
Levi
Lancaster
Redman
HB Scott's
Mail pouch
Beech Nut
Kodiak
Cope
Skoal in every flavor
Etc, ad nauseum

Top pick?
HB Scott's is the best 'baccer bar none.

I've been sick now for about 4 weeks. I've had maybe 2 dips in that time. I rarely have more than 2 small dips per day. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and quit, while it's easy.

Dipped for over 20 years. I took my last dip a week ago this past Sunday. First 4 or 5 days was rough but im good now. I still want but care about my health more.
Cope fine cut for years then the past 8 or so long cut.

Always liked Levi Garetts for taste and Its what my dad chewed.

Used to dip 2-3 cans a week or smoke up to half a pack a day, or chew 2 pouches a week... or some combination thereof. Now, One can will last me at least a week or two. Then I forget for 2-3 weeks.

In the event I do buy a can: Skoal, Grizzly, Cope and interchangeable for me.

I really wish I could get the wintergreen flavor without the nicotine and tobacco...
Jake's mint chew. They advertise a lot on Sirius XM Channel 125, The Patriot. Your go-to resource for conservative talk, news analysis, and opinion.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming ????

My grandfather chewed this pouch tobacco that was basically processed raw tobacco that you had to actually chew to get any juice out of it. Very dry and no flavoring added. That was a long time ago though.

Fell asleep once as a youngin with a Copenhagen dip in, I woke with a 'vengeance' suffice to say, I learned my lesson..

+1 on Levi Garrett, I forgot about that one, I will have to try Lancaster..

A twist?? Is that fer real ?

I'm partial to red man gold but what are some other good ones?
Don't get any better than Red Man Gold!

I go for days and sometimes weeks without a chew. Then I will get the urge and chew a couple times and quit again for whatever period of time. Been that way for 20 years I guess. Usually never even chew a whole pack til it dries out too much to chew.

I saw this stuff advertised somewhere, not sure where, and decided to give it a shot of the mint flavor.

It shipped with two cans free, but the free ones were pumpkin flavor. I figured right then and there that this shit wasn't going to work. I probably convinced myself of that.

Now I"m back to the Skoal Classic Mint.

Living in Minnesota, that shit is just shy of $9 a tin.

Traveling for work has it's perks. I spend a lot of time in Nebraska and I can get a log for right about $25. Then I buy a bunch and take it home with me so I can avoid paying the pinko tobackey taxes.

I dipped Copenhagen Long Cut from jr high until about 8 years ago. I still have a bunch of friends that dip so I'll sneak a pinch a couple times a year.

I usually grab a bag of Levi about once a year, chew half, and let the rest dry out on my dash board.

we used to chew this stuff when i worked on the farm, got us through some long brutal days on the hay wagons. we called it "twist" and the boss called it "dogshit" we never really disagreed either lol

I dipped Copenhagen since high school. Many years ago I started adding Jack Daniels to a new can. Then they came out with the apple flavored Jack. Man that was good to go.
Two years ago I quit. 36 year old habits die hard. The first week was brutal it was pretty easy after that. Cold turkey is the best way to quit. Using the substitutes was not a help. You are still feeding the nicotine addiction.

Stay with it man...I chewed cope long cut and made my own "cope black" for years. I haven't chewed since July of 2011. Took me 2 years to quit but so glad I was able to do it eventually

“Grizzly is my go to dip. When I chew it's Days work plug or Stokers apple or peach.”

I think I read somewhere that CLint Eastwood chewed Days Work for the filming of Outlaw Josie Whales. Whenever i see it ill buy it, chew it up and try real hard not to spit on the dog. Its so hard quitting where I work. Coffee and chew has such deep cultural roots in the firehouse. We invented a word when you chew overdose, we call it “tobaccacardia.” Switched to Zyn pouches since ive fallen off the wagon again. No tobacco just nicotine. Can buy them in different doses to ween you when so desired. Damn you guys, i could go for a double decker of gold lid right now!

This is my fav, nothing even comes close to the flavor, but it's expensive. Back in the day Dad ordered chew from a place called Jolley Tobacco Farms, I'd love to have that recipe. I'm about ready to start making my own, if anyone has some tips on making your own blend let me know

Taylor's and Levi

Tobacco was never my thing. Years ago I would get a hankering for chew about once every six (6) months.

Haven't had the urge in 3+ years now. Have pouches in the fridge that need to be filed 13.

Loved me some Copenhagen Original especially on the hunt! My wife and dentist shamed and guilt tripped me into quitting over 15 years ago. Thought about going back a time or two but Honey Bun said I’d be eating out of a bowl on the porch if I did!... Still get the craving though!

I quit cope on Jan 1 2000 for my kids. Never lost the urge, and in 2011 I took a dip and you would think I never quit. I'm an old man, and still play baseball, and when I do its with a chaw of REDMAN. I dip about a can of Cope a day. Reading this thread and all the comments, I'm gonna try to kick it again. Right after I go to Richmond, VA. and let them know what I think about their new laws.

Thanks for all the inspiration from all of you that have kicked it. I did it for 11 years, I know i can do it again!!!!!

Great grandmother used to use this powder snuff (like face powder) and it came in these cotton drawstring pouches. I thought I had one laying around still, I'll see if I can find it but after I moved a lot of stuff is still buried or boxed.

Not like anything you see sold today though.

I don't recall how she used it but I do know way back in the day (like when she was probably born) they used to snort it.
