as the title says, does anyone know whats the best way to remove spray paint from a stock?

preferably with some kind of commercial item that does not smell like paint remover (since its too cold to do it outside right now)and will not harm the stock (synthetic hs precision).

Re: Best method of removing spray paint.

i used acetone to remove krylon off my old hs precision. kind of a pain since it evaporates so quickly. but it worked.

if memory serves correctly, it may have discolored the stock a tiiiny bit, but i am not positive as i never saw what the stock looked like before.

I have been using citri strip from Home Depot and so far it works great. I used it on a Glock frame, a scope and my ar with a carbon free float tube. There are no fumes and it is easy on the hands.

Re: Best method of removing spray paint.

depends on what the object being stripped is made of. Some solvents are harsh enough to damage plastic or aluminum. I've found zipstrip works well while not damaging plastic or aluminum. I've even used it to strip duracoat off of a USO. Other than that acetone works good as well.

Gasoline........the benzine content wil make short work of krylon paint removal.......smells good too!

No seriously, if you can get your hands on a can or two of CRC Industrial Degreaser it will do you a great job. You can get it at hardware stores or industrial supply outlets.

Good luck!

Brakleen, a good stiff bristle brush and a gaggle of paper towels. Took 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of OD Green and 2 coats of clear off of a B&C tac med in about an hour.
