Im surprized they have not made a movie on carlos hathcock, even if it was just on the sniper vs sniper or the "General" mission </div></div>

Wasn't the movie <span style="font-style: italic">Sniper</span> based on Hathcock? I could be wrong but I think so. Or maybe it was loosely based on the character.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> The movie Sniper features actor Tom Berenger shooting the enemy sniper through his own scope. This is probably based on Hathcock's story as well (Berenger's character was loosely based on Hathcock).</div></div>

I just got that off of Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Hathcock

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

'Shooter' was loosely based on Carlos Hathcock, in the book at least (Point of Impact). The movie was a touch different from the book.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

"Enemy at the Gates" is a dandy, but my vote has to be the original "jakal" NOT the one with Bruce willis. It doesn't do a whole lot of fun crawling around in the dirt in a ghillie stuff, but it shows everything a sniper utilizes such as fieldcraft, diception, and doing whatever it takes to get that one shot.

If anyone has some writing skills out there, you should write a script and we can put on an amature show.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

"Enemy at the Gates" was real good but I'll give a +1 to "Shot Through the Heart" as well. I liked "Shooter" too, but the movies just can't compare to the books, and most sniper movies really leave you feeling let down.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

1 enemy at the gates
2 shooter
3 saving private ryan
4 sniper (first was ok, 2&3 sucked ass)

Yes, they do need a Hathcock movie. Can believe there already hasnt been one. And i saw that Dolph Lundgren movie a loooong time ago when i was young, it was good and i would like to see it again now that i can understand it better.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

'Sniper" just seemed too hokey to me. I've never been a sniper but I read "The Ultimate Sniper", AND stayed in a Holiday Inn.
"Shooter"was a good movie, but not as good as
"Enemy at the Gate" . IMHO

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

The "Best" sniper movie has not been pooped out by Hollyweird yet. Several good movies have been mentioned here. My favorite is Shooter by a long shot. The scene in the beginning of the movie sorted it to the top of my list. Correct m40a3, correct reticle, etc....was a nice touch. Like others have said, hope a real sniper movie comes out some day. Although I don't see that happening in the current conditions.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

"Shot Through The Heart" would up there on my list of favorite sniper movies, it's based on a true story that happened during the Bosnian conflict.. There is a lot of sniping and counter-sniping throughout the movie so it's not too bad.

The scenes involving Gary Gordon and Randall Shughart from "Black Hawk Down", not the ones where they get killed but the ones where they're waxing mf'ers left and right.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

I will most definitely have to vote on "Enemy at the Gates".

I thought that Sniper and Shooter were too hokey for me. The opening scene of Sniper was outstanding when they were in their hide, however it seemed to go downhill from there. As far as Shooter, I thought the entire plot was rather hokey.

Grading them on action movies, yeah...I'll give Sniper and Shooter an A+ for entertainment, however I would not grade them high as a sniper movie. Would be like me saying "Navy SEAL's" was a really good SEAL movie or "Heartbreak Ridge" was an outstanding Marine Recon movie, but I would be lying. Entertainment value is high, but memorable for what they are trying to depict, no.

For kicks and grins I'll throw in top war movies with this, not sniper movies, that I consider top of the list are:

Gettysburgh
The Lost Battalion
All Quiet on the Western Front (1979 Version)
Flyboys
Gallipoli
Enemy at the Gates
Band of Brothers
Escape from Sobibor
Das Bot
Schindlers List
Saving Private Ryan
Letters from Iwo Jima
Flags of Our Fathers
Tora! Tora! Tora!
McCarthur
Patton
We Were Soldiers
Black Hawk Down

I'm sure there are others, but these really come to mind.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

Saving private Ryan and Enemy at the gates are the two most memorable to me. Sniper had too much BS included. Didn't see shooter. The scenes in Patriot Games with the sniper were good too.

Anybody see Munich? That was a damn good movie. Although very little sniping action. The GSG9 guys rampantly pulling triggers was good...need more of that. I'd like to see a movie about IDF snipers.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

Actually... The best sniper movie ever made, I don't remember the name of it...

But it was set in Bosnia and based off a true story of the two members of the "Bosnian/Serb"<?> Olympics team that were on opposing sides during the conflict.

That was a very good movie...

Lee.

Negative, that rifle was far from a M40A3. The scope was correct, but the rings looked like Leupold MK4 rings. The base wasnt a DDRoss. The stock wasnt an A4- it was a thumbwheel cheek piece A2 or A3.

I agree with this 100%. This is a kick ass movie.

Next on my list woudl be shooter. I liked Enemy At The Gates, but a little to much love sotry for me.

For the time, Sniper was awsome, it was the only thing at a time when anything sniper was still taboo.

A touch different?
The movie was nowhere close to the book. They paralleled each other but way different. The movie was entertaining to watch but the book was 100% better. Books are always better than movies in my opinion.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

I stopped watching Enemy during the bunker sex scene. I like a good porno, but come on, that was over the top and with all those other soldiers? They would have heard the slippery sounds of some poontang and woke up for some Team Bukakka action.

What about Phone Booth? Kifer Sutherland? He even had a AI.

Re: Best Military Sniper Movie.

Saving Private Ryan should be on the list of, How not to use your sniper movie.

Example: When they assault the MG position, the "sniper", leaves the doofus with his scope and assaults with the rest of them. Then the Dumbass typist is watching the machine gun position through the scope. Im thinking "HEAD SHOT!"

Man, then the bell tower of Death....

Great movie, just not for this.

I queued this up on Netflix thanks for the suggestion.
