Hello All,
I have been researching and researching and in the price range it seems there is a lump of LOW’s made scopes..Then you have the Burris XTR 3..The 22 Game rules out a decent amount of scopes because you need parallax to go down too 25 yards..And speaking of parallax I would like to find one that has good depth of view to save me from having to adjust it so much in the up to 100 yard game. As far as reticles, I like the tree and the center dot for sure, really like the MIL-XT and the variants like the SCR2 and such. Big fan of the .2 hashes. I have a Strike Eagle now and have no issues with the scope but it’s MOA and I want to switch to mils.. the Mil version doesn’t have .2 hashes. Anyway, any info on which of the LOW’s might be best suited or if you have the Burris and completely love it..The 22 game is a little different and figured I would get more idea here than I’m the Optics section. Hope that’s alright.

Favorite NRL22 scope for under 2K is the Vortex Razor HD AMG for me. It's 28oz, makes it easier to balance a rifle. It's got < 25 yard parallax, and I prefer the reticle for quick holdovers (#'s down the vertical strata).

It doesn't have .2 hashes, but it hasn't affected me yet for vertical holdovers. I can eye out 3.1 vs 3, etc. I bought a ZCO, and am going to switch back to my AMG once my new Spuhr comes in.

Looks like .5 to me when I looked on the vortex site..

The Strike Eagle 5-25 Mil has an EBR7C...this is what I run.

I started NRL22 w/Diamondback tactical 4-16 MOA, did not work well. I have switched to Talos BTR 4-14 mil, .2 mil retical marks, paralax to 10 yd, works well for hold over & under. I am not sure of better yet. Good luck, & enjoy.
The Athlon reticles are pretty nice! Athlons are made at the LOWs plant along with a lot of others.. I wonder how the Cronus stacks up with say the new Tract, or the Tenmile, etc..

I don’t mind a bushnell! The deal Midway has on the XRS is smoking too! 75 yard parallax though. I wonder how far you would have to back the power down to get a decent picture at 25-35 yards? Match Pro is a hell of a scope for that price.

Certainly is for the money. If you don't like it there would be no problem getting rid of it. The turrets are a little soft at first but get as good as anything I have with a little use. I have one and thinking about another soon. I have Nightforce, USO, Vortex etc. and I am able to tell you it is good for the money from my perspective. It will be clear if you adjust the parallax down to10 yards and 24x power. No power or parallax worries what so ever.

Focuses to 11 yards, MilC or Mil-XT, our bunch went from a bunch of Vortex/Athelon's and one ZCO, to 6 less Vortex/Athelons, and now we have 6, NX8 4X32's, one ZCO and the rest are wanting NX8's
running the ATACR 7-35 mil-xt & NX8 4-32 F1 mil-xt on my 2 vudoo's . Both work great . Replaced Athlon cornus BTR. Nothing wrong with the BTR but i like the NF more and love the mil-xt reticle

I actually won a vortex cert..So I guess a Razor Gen 2 it is...I will go with the Horus to get my .2 Hashes..Tough to go a different route for the $1699.00. You guys done had me talked into a NX8 4-32 F1 mil-xt till that came along.

not the best use of a vortex cert if you ask me but good luck with it

i wouldnt pick a horus either just for .2 on the vertical. if you're holding far enough youre likely need a good bit of wind too anyways

also .5 mil hashes means you can bracket the target to .25 with a lot less clutter

What is the best use of a cert in your opinion? I am always trying to learn.

.2 Mil hash marks are cool...but can you, your gun, and your ammo hold that? Just something to think about.
That is a good point! Using my Strike Eagle that is MOA I do actually use the .25 moa hashes below a 100 yards during NRL22 so, I am used to it. Over a 100 I dial, so I can’t say I use the hashes after that. I actually don’t mind MOA, but I am the only one in the group with MOA, so I am switching. My Vudoo is due this week, so figured I might as well make the switch now.

I have a Razor 4.5-27x56 / EBR-7C in Vortex PMR rings on my Vudoo. Another on the way for my backup centerfire rifle. The primary centerfire has a ZCO 5-27/56 in a Spuhr 6001. The Razor has 0.5mil vertical subtensions; the ZCO has 0.2mil subtensions. A few thoughts...
  • No way I'd pay $500 for a Horus reticle to get 0.2mil subtensions. With your cert, that price drops to $250, and $1700 isn't bad if you have to pay for the Horus. I personally wouldn't, because...
  • ... I can tell you from experience that, when you're on the clock, the extra "precision" you get from the 0.2mil subtension is offset by the clutter of all the extra lines.
  • I had a Viper PST 5-25x50 / EBR-7C on the Vudoo. [shrug] Worked fine - still does, mounted on my backup 6.5CM until the new Razor arrives. But the Razor is a much more solid scope. Remember, the elevation turret is going to get a real workout on a .22. It's not unusual in the rimfire matches I shoot to crank from one or two mils to 13-plus on a single stage. The Viper's smaller-diameter, much-lighter-feel turrets are pretty easy to turn by bumping. The Razor is much more tactile, and the turrets can be locked (both scopes have zero-stop).
  • You can save more $ with your cert by buying other Vortex products - but do you need the other products as much as the scope? Both my Razors were purchased with certs off prize tables.
  • Focus / parallax distance for the Razor is 32 yards - at max magnification. You'll never use max mag at close range in a match (well, not in any match I ever shot). I have no trouble with focus on a 1/4" target at 25 yards with the magnification dialed down to 10-15x.
It's gonna be tough to beat a Razor 4.5-27x56 for cert price of $1555 (tax was added when I ordered a week or two ago). Again, it's my personal $0.02 that paying extra at all, let alone $250, for that Horus reticle isn't a good investment. Good luck.

Edit: Fwiw, I have a 30MOA rail on my Vudoo and I can dial 23.5mils of "up" on the Razor, which gets me to 400+ yards. For me, that's plenty... I haven't personally seen any need for a 40-minute rail.

I have same experience as you with the PST GEN2 and Razor.

No issues at 25 yards with parallax.
Love the turrets
Nothing wrong with PST
(PST is on RH V22, Razor is for LH V22)
Picked up used razor on SH, great Price..
Build like a tank!

Got 30MOA rail, and 2OMOA one piece scope rings, plenty for the turret to go click click click click - although, one thing I've learned is that bottoming out the turret one way or another gives you somewhat of a "shade" around the top or bottom edge of the glass, the quality/sharpness also gets somewhat degraded.

Will probably be going back to 0 MOA rings, simply to that.
