Let’s hear your thoughts. I have a coletac on my last can and it has been decent but the inside material hasn’t held up that well to off an on over time. Looking for something for my new 338ultra.

I have an Armageddon gear suppressor cover on my Ultra 7.
I’m curious about precision underground, I’ll have to give them a try .
You won’t be disappointed. We use Kevlar thread and cord, a super thin aerospace insulation, carbon fiber felt, and genuine cordura. Our laced design stays in a tube shape and you slip the whole thing on and off and then tighten. It’s much less hassle than trying to roll and lace it up every time.

We can also do a matching solid color webbing on the camo patterns. Some people like that better than the camo webbing. I personally like the solid webbing better.

i much prefer the boa type strap/Velcro of the coletac design over the cordage and cinch stuff. ive also ran a elite iron cover for years and that sort of turns me off. precision underground, whats different in your cordage/cinch system over the others? why not a simple strap/Velcro buckle style? im open to change and just looking for something new.

as to the question of the whether my coletac was the htp design...no it isn't

What’s different on ours, other than the materials we use, is that you never unroll it. It stays in a tube-shape and you slide it on, slide the extra loop off the cover onto the barrel, and pull it tight. It’s really simple and effective and does not slide under recoil at all. When you want to take it off you loosen the loop on the barrel and put it back on the cover and you are back where you started. No threading or lacing needed.

Another note about the materials- our inner sleeve is coated in high temp silicone. That means no air can pass through it which means ridiculously good insulating ability once the carbon fiber felt is wrapped around it.

Sounds interesting @Precision Underground... im looking to change up my cover as well because the interior part of my TAB cover is coming apart and im not a huge fan of the shock cord system.
Shock cord is for backpacks, kevlar cord is for suppressors. Why isn't it used more? Because it's expensive. 50ft of shock cord costs $4. 50ft of kevlar cord costs $30.

Cole-Tac HTP covers. I don’t use the high temp sleeve for prs style matches though, only for heavy use. I’ve used them for years and I prefer them to any of the cordage retention covers that I’ve tried.
If you’re having deterioration issues with it, I would contact them, they have excellent customer service.

Can anyone comment on expectations of a cover with rounds per minute? If I shoot 10 rounds in 3 minutes I'm miraged out with cover....is that to be expected? Try a new cover? What would be my improvement potentially? 24" 6.5 with Q Thunder Chicken. Thanks guys

I can do that with my rifles only HAD cover and not have mirage.

To get mirage at that point, I have to be burning through rounds at a quick rate. Sustained rate is fine...little mirage but not detrimental to the shot.

However, my setup is not the same as yours. I’m using a reflex suppressor and a 18.5” barrel with 308, so the barrel isn’t heating up as fast due to slower velocities.

With my Cole-tac HTP cover I don’t notice much/if any mirage coming from my suppressor. 26” barrel 6.5 creedmoor. I usually shoot 10 shot strings...and then after 10 shots the barrel/suppressor get a cool down period. From start to finish the 10 shots are almost always done in less than 2 minutes

Excellent thanks. Does it make any sense to pull the cover off to expedite cooling while you wait? Seems to me a cover might trap heat in while trying to cool down? Or no? I tried that last week and don't know if it helped wasn't very scientific I didn't time it or anytihng.

As long as there is just a little bit of wind to keep heat at the end of the suppresor(not covered) from boiling up into the scope you can shoot basically as many precision rifle rounds as you want without seeing mirage with our cover. There have only been a couple of occasions where it was still enough out for heat at the end of can to get in front of the scope for me. And yes, sliding it back to let the can cool is a good idea for the sake of the suppressor/barrel.

Yes, the cover will help “hold” the heat. Putting it on/taking it off is super fast/easy, and removing it will help cool things off quicker

I have an Armageddon Gear with the shock cord I like, but don’t have anything to compare it to yet. I’m looking for a couple more and will check out the Precision Underground brand.

While I’m shooting it between strings I’ll just reach up and slide my suppressor cover back from the suppressor onto the barrel to let it cool. It may be in my head but seems like when it got too hot my groups opened up, let it cool and tightened back up. With the shock cord system it makes it easy to slide on and off.

I might try one of the high temp silicone or whatever material the Manta and Bowers covers are made of. They seem to be least likely to melt. I did order a Cole-Tac pouch. Can shoot without a cover then dump it into the pouch while still hot.

Clole-Tac HTP, on my 308 bolt gun.... it can get screaming hot, yet the cover allows easy removal (I need to remove the suppressor to case my rifle)... Velcro straps with buckle reduces slippage. Best part... excellent chrome service - husband/wife team!

I use the Rifles Only HAD cover. I think I remember one of the RO videos claiming that it was rated to 3,000* F. I’ve gotten it plenty hot at times, but never hot enough that it was uncomfortable in the least to put my hand in the cover.

If you follow the instructions w/ the Kevlar cord it’s a non-issue as mine has never moved at all. If I had to buy another can cover tomorrow it would be a RO HAD.
