Re: best QUALITY upper / lower receiver

Like you, I started with the receivers. I wanted to stay away from billet. I wanted light and billet parts are heavier and bulkier. They also offer no advantage over a forged and properly machine part.
I went with a Spike's Tactical lower receiver because, well, I really liked the color filled spider. The first upper receiver that I tried was a Bravo Company. The one that I had was a bit sloppy with the barrel extension fit and a bit sloppy in the bolt carrier area. Since I had it, I used it. I found that as the barrel heated up, the POI changed a bit, so I pulled the barrel and lapped the face of the receiver. The POI shift stopped, but it still didn't shoot as well as I wanted.
Next I tried a Vltor MUR upper. It was bulkier and heavier than I wanted, but it was a nice looking forged receiver and I traded for it. When I got it, I found that it was sloppier than the Bravo Company receiver with about the same results.
The last receiver I tried was a Daniel Defense. That was a nice receiver. The bolt carrier fit well, no high spots, the face was square and the fit of the barrel extension almost required pressing. Nice tight and straight.
In any case, I wound up with a Bravo Company bolt/carrier, Geiselle trigger, Spike's buffer, Superior Barrels 18" with rifle length gas (shoots ultra smooth) and a UBR stock.
This is what it looked like...
The pic shows the rifle with the Vltor upper, but it is wearing a DD upper now.
It weighed right at 10lbs without the bipod. </div></div>
I was thinking about a Vltor upper. Is this usually the case ?
