Hunting & Fishing Best tripod for out west hunting?

I run a slik carbon. Outdoorsman are a bit heavy for backpack hunting from what I remember in my research.

Outdoorsman has great pan heads though.

I think they have rights to the Jim White panhead which is amazing

Silk user here. Not sure where out west you are hunting but spotter with tripod is key for hunting in Alaska as you can spend hours looking through your spotter. Weight Vs performance but in my book, a little extra weight for a spotter / tripod is worth it.

I bought the pro master carbon from camera land. No frills head with Arca clamp. Works fine for me. Also use it to shoot from and stabilize 85mm spotter. You can spend way to much money and time shopping for tripods

having owned a manfroto, hog saddle, feisol, desmond and now a really right stuff i can say that there is no comparison to the rrs. but among all of the others there is not a huge difference even though there is a difference in price and weight.

The RRS Anvil does look like a damn nice setup, I'm sure the price reflects the design and quality as they are spendy. I have no experience with those in particular but I have never been a fan of the twist lock leg design.

I think it’s actually lighter...the legs anyway. The weight seems to be inversely proportional to the cost of tripod systems.
Hate to say this - but the RRS/Anvil30 combo is...well, just fucking awesome. I resisted for ages and stuck doggedly with my old CF manfrotto but then cracked and bought the RRS, like the spineless gear whore I never wanted to be.
It’s alright man. We’re here to support/enable you.

This isn’t really even in the same class but Its definitely a solid budget option. The Caldwell fieldpod max is a decent choice if you are on a budget. I’ve used them to shoot little tiny prairie dogs out to 400+.

I have the Feisol 3442 with the RRS universal leveling base. Works great for the rifle and a spotter or binos. I have the optional center column for PRS matches when my taller son is with me. Less than 4 lbs without the center column.

I used a nightforce tripod with a hog saddle out in colorado. It wasnt bad. The tripod also can be made into a monopod with the head attached. Or it can be broken down into a set of hiking sticks. Carbon fiber to boot.

I just purchased a Sirui 1204 with the va5 ball head from cameraland. They are running 20% off right now on all tripods and Sirui has a rebate as well. I think with the rebate and everything it should be right around $350.

Looking at the outdoorsmans tripods versus the slik. Is the outdoorsmans worth the money?
For lightweight high country back pack hunting Outdoorsmans tripod with Jim White arca head. Fantastic and well worth the dough. I also have the RRS - without a doubt the most stable tripod available; I often carry both but if I am really wanting to shed some pounds I take the Outdoorsmans.

Feisol 3342 here. Really like it. Currently using sunwayfoto xb-44 ballhead. Not super stoked on the ballhead and maybswotch to RRS universal leveling base or an anvil 30 before hunting season.

I had the outdoorsman tripod for my 15x binos and the RRS w/ Anvil for my AXMC while elk hunting in AZ. At the end of the trip, I sold my outdoorsman tripod. Just a bit too heavy and awkward to use in the field after playing with the RRS. .

It’s so good....but I feel so dirty..

Same! But it's a good kinda dirty!

With everyone loving the anvil, how does it handle for glassing? For shooting off of, I know that it can’t be beat but I use my tripod for a 95mm spotter, 15x binos, and 10x binos and am not sure how the head will handle with grinding and such. It sounds like some like it but i’d love to hear more about it!
