I have a few, no where as nice as MJ's, but a nice variety. I guess I never thought they would go up in price. I have been seeing the Izzy rounds going for $169, and folks are snatching them up. Gosh they were only $69 about 3 years ago, guys were buying whole crates. Some online places still have them for $89, but not in stock.
Ok call me ignorant [MENTION=7363]kraigWY[/MENTION] but what is going to trigger a huge jump in value?

Since I started this whole shooting thing, I've set aside a decent budget with two rules, "If the mosin is less than $100, buy it." and "If the service rifle is under $200, buy it." I did break the Mosin rule the other day. I ran across a 1925 Foremost Ordnance Factory USSR at Tula with a MO marking. That one had to follow me home for $150.

Got a Finn made SAKO that I got from my Step-dad for payment for working on his car. Its my first mosin,I love the way it shoots.
Always jealous of MJ1's pics. He has the nicest old rifles. As for the executive order, the way I read it, it will only apply to rifles that were sent overseas such as Garands and M1 Carbines. These will not be able to be RE-imported, like what CMP does. Either way it's bad all around. Check out the Silencer sub-forum for a link to the article. Contact your reps.
The executive order only bans the reimportation of US military arms that have been supplied to other countries.
And since those are mostly M16s, they are not legal anyway.

This is the kind of topic that drives prices higher with no basis in fact. It's already bad enough with one of the Local dealers wanting $299 and more for a Hex receiver Mosin as of a week ago.
OUCH!!! ~$300 for a hex-receivered Mosin!!! You'd have to shoot me with it first and then take my money from my wallet to get me to spend that on most of the junk I see from some of my local dealers on items like that.
I had a rather heated discussion with one old boy about 2 months ago over a very similar $225 one that looked like hell from butt to muzzle, inside and out, who informed me that price is what the market was bearing nowadays on those "fine" military surplus rifles and that I should be happy to even get a chance to buy one!!
Needless to say...its still on the rack to this day with the same price tag. I hope its still there when he croaks and his estate can get $75 for it because it isn't worth a dime more than that as it sits!I believe this will ship jobs overseas. Many of those M16s coming back are disassembled into "parts kits" with the barrels and lower receivers removed and destroyed. I believe this work is currently done at the SOT here, will have to go overseas so they can ship back unregulated parts in the future. Probably lower the price due to lower wages/standard of living(rolls eyes) Could be entirely wrong, it's happened before.

I stops the 100,000 M1 Carbines S. Korea has been trying to sell. As stated, just USA made, bought or loaned weapons will be banned from reimportation. Parts kits are still good. So no more M1's, 1903's, Savage Enfield's, Krag's and the like. Stupid laws made by stupid @#$@#$#@
That would be about right.
Accomplish NOTHING to reduce crime, but also eliminate US jobs. GREAT move.

That is the big one right there. M16's wouldn't ever really sell en-masse. But, reimported M1 and M1 Carbines would go like hotcakes right now.
Now I guess the South Koreans can utilize North Korean labor near the DMZ to "manufacture" parts kits from their M1s. Foreign policy full of "win"

Just curious, but aren't M-16's designated as Class III firearms just like M-14's due to their full auto capability ("once a machine gun, always a machine gun")?
Yep, and the ones effected by this action aren't on the registry, so they can't be sold to civilians. However, properly qualified entities could, before this action, import them, remove and destroy the barrels and lower receivers, and sell the rest as parts kits, providing an opportunity for U.S. jobs. Now those firearms will have to be disassembled overseas if those parts kits are to be available in the U.S.. Or they could be sent to the next highest bidder, whether that be a dictator in Africa or drug lord in South America or Mexico. Win-Win right ?
Correct. My point being is because of the extra hoops already required to get an M-16 they would be less desirable than an M1/M1 Carbine in that the latter is a "ready to go, sellable" item.
In retrospect, it might be the M-16 that outsells any and all other mil-surps brought back to the U.S.
I would think you Mosin grabbers would be sucking up all the ammo you can find.

I haven't given it much thought or read anything about this other than a few posts here, but the one thing that struck me was they must be thinking "let's be sure to keep guns in the hands of foreigners, not our enemies..." If you get my drift.
Prices have fallen since the "great panic", but not to where they were...
Several of the usual C&R players have them for $129. The 440 round ammo packs can still be had for under $100. If the cheap ammo dries up for the plinkers (i don't shoot the stuff because it's not accurate enough for target work) the attractiveness of the rifles will drop, IMO.
Still reasonably accurate when modded and handloads used...which is why I make stocks for 'em...
