I commented I’ll take it on a listing by vivacious stallion, stepchild changed his profile picture to match vivacious stallion and messaged me to PayPal him. The classic SH scam. Double check everything guys! 🫡

I did report the account, I thought I saw someone else post about this account so glad you saw it too, but nothing has been done so trying to save someone the trouble until it gets taken down. The account has been around since 2011 but has zero reactions, feedback, etc.

I think this has happened on any sale listing I've made in the last year. If an interested person posts something even remotely like "I'll take it" some scammer pops up to try and impersonate. This even happened for people that posted they had dibs on being second in line if the first deal fell through.

And yet people still can’t resist posting on the publicly visible WTS ad. The best thing @Lowlight could do is make it impossible to reply to any listing in the PX. Lock every thread there as soon as it posts. DM only.

Let me translate for the boomers:

“I’ll take it” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Dibs” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Seconds” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“PM’d” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Is this still available?” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Is this the gen 2?” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Do you take flips?” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Who did the chamber” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Does it group?” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Why are you selling” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.
“Your mother’s a whore Trebek.” ———-“I’m ready to be scammed. Come take my money”.

Are we starting to see a pattern?

I dream of a world where people don't post "I'll take it" or "pm sent" and instead pm the seller directly. The only posts in the thread after the OP should be questions and "item sold". Take away the air from the scammer.
It’s more for the public dibs for why I do it- to be able to lay claim vs dealing with the PM’s. As a seller it’s also nice to not have everyone and their mother messaging you if you have a solid buyer. I know you can mark sold, but i won’t reach out in an item if I see an “I will take it”. Not sure what the perfect solution is.

Case in point-

We clear reports out several times a day

We had a hiccup the update fixed that created a loophole, the hole was closed but the scammers don’t make one account they make 10 each.

You all don’t realize these scammers are NOT people in the sense, Bob wants to rip you off, this is organized crime run by teams of criminals

We play whack a mole everyday, you have to help to include not assuming people are scammers as well as not proving evidence for us to act on. Scammer report real people too in order to establish an account as credible

Timely is every minute of the day, we don’t have that many mods

Also making posts proclaiming you found a scammer is beyond stupid and self defeating

Just report them, you can say this tactic was used but the account is meaningless, they steal emails, passwords from across the net. The AZXDG account ripping you off posts just create confusion, 10 minutes later we get 10 fake reports cuz guys see ghosts. Stop doing it, report and move on.

If you ask a question in the publicly visible thread, the very next thing you will have in your PMs is a bullshit message offering a sale.

A way to prevent it would be don't post publicly you will take anything, or even say PM. It would be nice if ad's are locked from all replies except by OP.

The biggest tactic currently used is to see one of the following ;

WTB, they will have what you want at a price you won’t resist, or their friend has it, contact him.

I’ll take it, you’ll get a private message from a different account ( not the OP) with payment instructions, they may even say the OP is busy.

These are the most common
