Nobody ever asks if that number will be adjusted for inflation or if that is single or family earnings. $400k sounds like a lot now but if you consider that 40 years ago that was equal to $125k and the median income is now $62.5 that means that 40 years from now Joe’s “Tax on the Wealthy” would realistically land squarely in the middle class income bracket for a working family with two incomes.

Considering I’m slightly above the median now and still looking at 40 years of working there is a very real possibility of getting whacked by these taxes even before I retire. Additionally there is no way there will be any SS left by the time I get there and the Democrats insistence on taxing unrealized capital gains and accumulated wealth it’s blatantly obvious those fuckers are trying to bleed my retirement dry long before I get to use it.

Yes, a statement from Biden did it. That statement has been in written form on his website for over a year.

You think maybe the fed chair in the morning stating that the economy "needs a stimulus package or face a tragedy" might have had something to so with it? Or the fact that there was a major announcement that 2 trillion dollars probably wont be injected into the economy because talks broke down had anything to do with it? I don't know, I would assume 2 trillion dollars has more effect on the markets than Biden's oft repeated campaign speech in front of 30 people today. But that's just me.

Your rough math is only about 1/3 done.

Your effective federal income tax rate may have been 12%. If you guys are employees, you paid another $10,328 in FICA taxes you never saw, because they were withheld from your paycheck. Your employer paid that same $10,328 on your wages, which could have (and should have) gone to you instead. Then you pay property taxes, sales tax at 6-13% on the shit you buy, and excise taxes on all sorts of stuff that you're unaware of because it's built into the purchase price of whatever you're buying. Everything from airline tickets, hotel rooms, vehicles, gas, booze, guns etc. Own stocks or mutual funds? 21% of the profits from those businesses gets sucked up by the government, and then you pay another 15% when you get your dividend. Tally it all up and you'd realize that 12% is only a small fraction of what you pay the government.

I'm with you, for the most part. I know we need to pay taxes, to have what we have here in the U.S.
My problem with taxes is, IF, all of our tax $$ would go for what they are meant to go for, infrastructure, S.S., Military, non-Marxist public schools, the handicapped, F even assistance, because, some people are just not lucky (I use that word very loosely) to have made the right choices in their lives, I get that, but, not an excuse. IF all that F'n money would be managed properly, instead of being loaded on ships/planes and sent to some F'd-up country, instead of keeping it here and taking care of the ones that the .gov stole it from, I'd be good with it.
That's why I like Trump as much as I do, he's a F'n business man, not perfect, by any means of the word, but, I think he is trying to give us a fair shake, way better than past administrations.

If you were to save $9K per year in property taxes and instead invested that into a retirement plan, assuming an average ROI of 7% over 30 years, that's an extra $920k you'd have to retire on. The same would apply if you saved $9k per year in income taxes. Or a split between income and property taxes.

I think retirees are moving to states that have friendlier weather for arthritis and more advantageous tax structures for retires. One of my parents (who recently moved from Florida to Texas) biggest hesitation was the tax structure. They are paying far more here than in Florida, but they decided with their other needs being closer to family was beneficial.

What I have seen in business for decades there is little reward for charting a stable course in the middle. Most companies as well as our political system would rather swing the pendulum to it max ordinance left to right because you can campaign and pitch plans on the fringes knowing in a matter of time there will be a counter swing of similar magnitude in the other direction. When done well you can achieve balance and progress in most cases it creates gridlock and distrust.
This is what happens when everyone is pitching for the next fiscal quarter or the next election.

I think both parties are actual far more centrist than they play on TV. The same way I think Trump is far more stable than the rating fool he plays on TV.

What I have seen in business for decades there is little reward for charting a stable course in the middle. Most companies as well as our political system would rather swing the pendulum to it max ordinance left to right because you can campaign and pitch plans on the fringes knowing in a matter of time there will be a counter swing of similar magnitude in the other direction. When done well you can achieve balance and progress in most cases it creates gridlock and distrust.
This is what happens when everyone is pitching for the next fiscal quarter or the next election.

yes the governments strangle hold on the people is awful and the oppression in the rural areas is criminal. But in the economic development zones they have adapted a western capitalistic society with a long term vision. Everything is 10/20/50 year plans. We don’t know what the hell we are actually doing next month never mind next year or next decade

i think you are right about regular people in both parties being more centrist, but i don't agree that the democrat party is still centrist.
democrats have nothing to offer to the american people except free stuff, but you are right that they have no intention of actually keeping any of their ridiculous promises. democrats don't want to help anyone, they just want control, anyway they can get it, so they can keep their bribery operations going.
