I know the title sounds weird, but do you all think its better training to shoot large .22 targets at 300-400 yards. Or shoot 2-3 inch targets out to 200 yards.

Wind is going to come into play at longer distances and will be a challenge (or learning experience) depending how you look at it.
300-400 yards. I have a 17" x 1/4" round gong for that purpose when I get around to doing it. Now at 200 yards I shoot 6, 5, & 4 inch round gongs, but that's just because I find them manageable with the subsonic rounds and I'm use to reading the wind at 200 yards. That's not to say the wind doesn't win at times at 200 yards and I miss completely, but that's on me, not mother nature.
Perhaps start big and work your way down to the smallest gong you can hit consistantly. Pretty much what Sota said.

This is what I have for 100yds out to 250yds:
Largets is ~12H x 6W and smallest is 2H x 1.5W. It's good to have an assortment dependent on wind conditions. All my targets are A36 mild steel plasma cut 3/8" thick except the largest two which are only 1/4" thick. I got them off of eBay from Brian at Arkansas Custom Manf. Great guy to deal with. I had a local fabricator bend up some 3/8" round bar for stands and weld on the J-hooks.
I have been shooting out to 200 with 3" wide targets and some of the targets are around 1" at 115, which are pretty hard to hit. I had a match on my farm and put out around 25 targets and we all had a blast. I believe the small stuff works on, myself doing my part. Just trying to find the sweet spot on size and range. I fabricated some 12" steel, which may be to large. I want to deal with the wind, but I know at some point I'm really not helping myself if range is to far or targets are to small for what a .22 can do. One of the neat findings Ive found. With standard velocity when Im shooting on a cool morning or maybe the air is more dense, I'm a .4/.5 mil lower at 120 yards than when shooting mid day when the air is warmer. Thanks for the input.

Not nearly as much as you might think since they are A36 mild steel not AR400 or AR500! The smaller the target the less expensive ($2-$3 each) while the bigger ones are more ($7-$10 each). Brian will knock a little off as well since he doesn't have to add bases or paint them. Great guy to deal with:

Frame is just 36" length of 3/8" round bar bent into an "M" while the J-hook is ~6"-8" of 3/8" or 1/4" round bar welded on the back with the hook facing forward (hangs better that way). I also have some stands with 1.5" washers tack welded to the frame to form a channel for the J-hook to ride in when the targets spin. I'll have to upload a photo of that version when I get a chance tomorrow morning. I giggle like a school girl everytime I take these out and start plugging them from 150yds-250yds.
It's a shame you're not closer to Conover NC for the monthly TCS matches. It's hands down one of the best rimfire matches around!
