Big Boss? What else?

I was sold on the Forster Coax for my single stage press, but now this Redding group buy really has me thinking about the Big Boss deluxe kit. I did a search on the Boss and only came up with one thread and it wasn't comparing it to anything. Am I going to be sorry I got the Redding instead of the Forster? I'm only set up for progressive .223, .40 and .45 right now so with buying this kit what else do I need for .308 off of the top of your head? I planned on also getting a full length sizer and comp. seater if the kit didn't come with dies, but I can't think of anything else I'll need. All of the help is much appreciated.

You're the only one who can answer this one. Both presses are very well made. The major difference between the presses, besides the testimonials, is the ergonomics. You should try the Forster to determine if you like using it. To me it's simplicity versus complexity: which appeals to you? Others will have another basis for evaluation. Try both and then determine what your characteristic for differentiation will be. If you get it in your mind that you have to have one rather than the other, then that will be your choice. You can be perfectly satisfied with either. The magic is in your perception.

What Winchester69 said, plus:

The Big Boss II has the through-the-ram spent primer handling, not the plane Big Boss.

I would get the BBII over the BB, but I'd get the co-ax over either one (I have one and love it).

On re-reading your post, you should not let your press choice determine your die selection. If you're shooting for accuracy, the standard Redding dies might not be your first choice. I'll direct you toward Forster dies and Redding Competition seating dies; the recommendation has to do with the design of the seaters. You should also consider Redding bushing sizing dies.

For the calibers you've mentioned, the Redding Baby Boss press would serve; its short ram stroke can be easier on the arm. Your process needs should not be influenced by a windfall purchase opportunity. Look at the big picture rather than what is immediately available to you.

+1 if your going to get the BB, get the BBII (although I do believe you can upgrade a BB to a BBII but it's probably not cost effective to do it that way unless you find a BB press for cheap).

I have a BBII press on order from DnsSports which have much better prices then the "group buy" prices. Only down side is Redding's backlog right now, especially on presses is like 8-10 weeks

Re: Big Boss? What else?

I can't speak to the Forster as I have never used one, but I have the Big Boss II and the thing is just a pleasure to use. I would buy one again in a second.

Does the Co-Ax not work well with .338lm? Would the Ultramag be a better choice there?

Re: Big Boss? What else?

Take a look at the T-7 Press too, I load everything from .17 to .338 Lapua on mine and love it.

I found that the tallest Dillon Strong Mount bolts directly to the T-7 with no mods but was just a little short so I added a 2x2 on each side to raise it up a bit.
